Basso & Brooke - London Spring 2009
(LONDON) Inspired by the Heian era of Japan, designers Bruno Basso and Christopher Brooke delivered their vision of a "High-Tech Romance" for Spring 2009. Colors exploded in vibrant prints which included traditional Japanese motifs such as flowers, birds, calligraphy -- we even spotted some Hokusai waves adorning dresses. The intense palette of hues encompassed coral red, iris blue, intense black, salmon, celestial blue and pale rose, with dresses pin-tucked and folded strategically to create updated versions of signature styles. On their super-high embellished platforms, models did look like they were strutting the catwalk in a geisha-esque manner. Other accessories included striking obi belts and oversized hair pins, bobby pins and fish clips, which added a playful, surreal touch, courtesy of milliner Stephen Jones.
