Biba - London Fashion Week Spring 2008
(LONDON) Bella Freud may have left the company in June, but Biba's in-house team seemed eager to get back to the beach with the Spring 2008 collection. Taking as inspiration a Mediterranean holiday in the South of France, the label rolled out a loosely nautical-themed collection which included dresses with sailor detailing, high-waisted candy-striped shorts, and linen safari jackets. Each look was accessorized with sweet Riviera plimsolls or with the new Biba range of bold sneakers. Homage was paid to the iconic Biba aesthetic, with geometric print maxi chiffon dresses and a dark berry palette, which Biba founder Barbara Halunicki dubbed “Auntie colors,” after the somber hues favored by old British maids.
