Basso & Brooke - London Fashion Week Spring 2008
(LONDON) The boys at Basso & Brooke may have rose to fame with their flying phallus prints and flashy 1980s nightclub aesthetic, but their spring collection was all about elegance. For his signature, eye-popping prints Bruno Basso drew inspiration from Adlous Huxley's Brave New World, Italian designer Ettore Sottsass's bold-use graphics, and painter Fiona Rae's ironic brand of abstract expressionism. Dresses, which ranged from shirtdresses to floor length gowns, boasted soft, feminine silhouettes, while trench coats and adorable knickerbockers were some of the sportswear highlights. To top it all off (literally) some the models donned painterly geometric-shaped hats that could have been lifted straight from the Tate Museum.
