Runway Reviews: Issa London, Basso & Brooke

In recent years, Naomi Campbell has graced Issa London’s catwalk. This season, Campbell was nowhere to be found—but that wasn’t the only reason the presentation seemed a bit lackluster. Bright sequin dresses in colorful patterns, a one-shouldered black gown, leather leggings and a black cape are all fine pieces (that will likely sell), but the collection lacked a cohesive direction that made it a bit hard to follow. Simpler works better for designer Daniela Helayel—a belted camel coat covered in fur was easy and luxe, as was a gray sheath dress edged in black lace.
Basso & Brooke
This brand is mostly known for prints, but even the most jaded LFW show-goers were rejuvenated by Basso & Brooke's expansive Fall 2010 collection. A veritable explosion of color, pattern, and digitally-printed imagery, the pieces displayed a vitality welcome in a season when things are typically a bit more somber. Practical considerations aside, the collection’s prints were stunning, whether in long-sleeved draped jersey dresses, a fur-collared parka, or a pair of leggings peeking out from the bottom of a solid black wrap skirt.
