Basso & Brooke - London Fall 2008
(LONDON) Roll Call: Franca Sozzani
Chic Report: Basso & Brooke make clothes for larger-than-life types. Everything from colors to textures to prints is big, bold, and to the max. This season, the designers looked to architecture for inspiration, focusing especially on Norman Foster's skyscrapers and Frank Gehry's shimmery surrealist forms. The palette was kaleidoscopic as usual, jolting a tiered coat with a fiery red hue or a slouchy bubble jacket with a vibrant green shade. And the textures, the textures! Woven raffia sheaths, patent leather trim, and patchwork anything lent this collection a charming DIY vibe. But tailoring was there, too, in dramatically manipulated nipped jackets and skirts. Topped off with Stephen Jones hats, Basso & Brooke's fall vision is eccentric all the way.
