Armani Privé - Couture Paris 2007
(NEW YORK) Though a record 600 breathless onlookers packed the venue, thousands more watched the elegant opulence of Armani Privé's India-inspired collection on their computer screens courtesy of IMG, which, together with MSN.com and Cingular, made the couture show the first in history to stream live online. Mr Armani's creations used sub-continental chic as their starting point, but eschewed the country's traditional brights, models instead emerging on the darkened runway in slate, cream, and delicate rainwater grey. |page| Silky skirt suits, cocktail dresses, and evening gowns were all exquisitely restrained, their slim, tapered lines embellished with spare sprinklings of Taj Mahal-meets-Art-Deco jewels and masterfully minimal draping that flowed around cinched natural waists; a coquettish assortment of turbans, berets, and headpieces, meanwhile, finished off the feeling of 1930s glamour. The effect was at once exotic and archetypically civilized, executed with the unparalleled finesse of Armani's unmistakable vision.
