Vera Wang - Bridal Fall 2008
(NEW YORK) If Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby needed a wedding dress, Vera Wang’s fall collection would certainly tickle her fancy. The designer brought back the glamour and femininity of the Hollywood of the ’30s through the ’50s, focusing on bows, halter necklines, and flowing petticoats--a noticeable shift from the streamlined and simplistic designs that made her a household name. “It’s an era when women were unapologetically glamorous, and it’s about being glamorous and sexy without being vulgar. It’s Bette Davis, Gentleman Prefer Blondes, Joan Crawford, and Jean Harlow,” Wang told Fashion Week Daily. “But it’s our twist with a new modern way of doing it.” Ruffles, pleating, and a focus on painstaking details made the dresses interesting from every angle and at the same time injected drama and flair to what were otherwise simple and elegant champagne and ivory colored gowns.
