Runway Reviews: Tommy Hilfiger, Reem Acra
(NEW YORK) Reem Acra
Instead of the usual runway show or presentation, Reem Acra taped a short video for her website featuring her Fall offerings. The aim? To cast a wider net than the usual fashion crowd. And for Fall, this designer went a little darker than usual, with draped dresses in burnished gold, chocolate and bronze juxtaposed against an abstract floral print and slouchy sequined coats. There were plenty of day options, but it was the evening stuff—especially fabulous takes on shirtdressing—that stole this (virtual) show.
Tommy Hilfiger
Hilfiger closed out the shows in Bryant Park with one of his best collections in years. Coincidentally—or not—this was also the first collection that Peter Som, the brand's new creative consultant, has worked on. Most looks represented Hilfiger classics, but jazzed-up and modernized thanks to updated silhouettes and luxurious textures. A wealth of killer outerwear, from toss-on jackets to camel coats to even a sleeveless trench, is destined to fly off the racks at that sparkling new Fifth Avenue flagship. Not to mention the best selection of work-ready separates seen on the New York runways, from suiting to paperbag trousers to narrow little jackets
and beyond. And a few silver satin dresses will make Hilfiger a contender in the evening category. Send us the delivery dates, please!
