(NEW YORK) "There are so many people who do basics so well, but this is our forte," explained Sachin Ahluwalia, one half of the husband-wife team behind Sachin & Babi for Ankasa. Basics they weren’t--every piece in the collection has a special touch, whether it was stitched strips of leather and silk making up a structured dress, sequins peeking out from a sliced jersey or chiffon blouse, or "leather sequins"--tiny disks of brown of black leather--embellishing a go-to pegged trouser. "Everything we do has a little Indian in it," said Sachin of the embellished (though not heavy-handed) collection, which also drew inspiration from Russian Faberge eggs as far as its gilded touches, rich colors and mix of textures. New for the duo this season was a full collection of jewelry, with earrings added to their already-popular necklaces. Again, ornamentation was the objective, but not without sacrificing practicality; heavily embellished chain earrings were surprisingly lightweight, and at price points of $100-200, they're an accessible way to integrate the Sachin & Babi aesthetic into any wardrobe.
