Monique Lhuillier - Pre-Fall 2008
(NEW YORK) Monique Lhuillier is cognizant of her clientele's penchant for her evening wear, and she didn't disappoint with her pre-fall offerings. "It's for a glam night out--no-fuss clothes that everyone needs in their closet," said the designer. "Gowns are fluid and opulent in volume." Simple, stunning, and subdued best describe her endless selection of cocktail dresses and red-carpet gowns (for the record, separates were presented, but kept to a minimum in the form of a pair of tuxedo pants, skirt, and a handful of sequin-trimmed cardigans and tanks). Lhuillier's trademark has become her feminine use of silk chiffon and satin organza, and this time, when infused with such shades as mocha, raisin, granite, ruby, and teal (not to mention the requisite black), they made for smoldering eye candy looks, in which a short black-and-white cocktail dress with soutache trim was extra sweet. Among the strapless and sleeveless draped, pleated, and ruffled gowns--most of which were set in V-neck, cowl neck, or bateau-neck form--was an exquisite black silk charmeuse one-shouldered draped gown with embroidered sleeve. A chocolate billow gown with jeweled shoulder was also a nice departure from Lhuillier's generally body-conscious aesthetic
