Vera Wang - Pre-Fall 2008
(NEW YORK) Vera Wang's Pre-Fall 2008 collection was the perfect fusion of uptown chic and downtown edge, featuring a range of textures and meticulous detailing. Wang used blanketing fabrics that appear heavy but are actually lightweight, as well as soft felt and 1920’s-inspired abstract prints. The color palette was dark with touches of color including shades of purple and green added in at just the right moments. Bundles of pleated rosettes and gathered fabric adorned dresses, tops, and jackets while stones and beading contained in mesh bundles embellished others. Interpretations of T-shirt dressing and exposed seams were far from sloppy. Standouts include a dress with a navy stretch shantung bodice and a grey wool jersey knit neckline and back. A black lurex canvas jacket and cropped pant had a dash of shine. There were menswear moments and even an homage to Yves Saint Laurent with a jersey outfit. If Wang’s pre-fall collection is a preview of what’s to come, we can't wait for February.
