Lanvin - Paris Spring 2009
(PARIS) Alber Elbaz designs for a very specific woman--or is it really that he's created her? His spring collection offered Lanvin devotees more of what they love, namely in the form of arch blouses, slouchy skirts and narrow high-waisted trousers. The palette was the extraordinary thing--bordeaux juxtaposed with pumpkin, ice blue against slate, mustard with black. The silhouette was centered around an exaggerated hip, and up top, asymmetry was all. One nude strapless dress achieved a perfect proportion in a sweetly fitted bodice and fuller mini. The bold trompe l'oeil pleating on several sheaths rendered them, in a word, Lanvin. Elbaz manages to achieve lightness even when playing with excessive volumes, even when the occasional tuck and flourish can overwhelm an otherwise balanced look. Stunning jewel-encrusted heels juxtaposed nicely with a sleek black trench-dress, but a dress composed of pleated rose skirt with a sparkly crochet tank offered all of Elbaz's best in one. A smattering of jeweled evening frocks drew rounds of applause for one of Paris' favorite crowd-pleasers.
