(NEW YORK) In Øverland's inaugural runway effort, the leather-loving designer opened with a nude perforated sheath--an homage to the body-con look she does best--but the mood quickly diversified as alternative fabrications energized the scene at Exit Art. A smattering of leather dresses will become a seasonal must for those already outfitted with Øverland's signature tights, but it was the silk pieces that proved most revelatory and showed this designer's ability to appeal to hors-rocker types. A black-and-white spotted print worked equally well in a pantsuit and gamine little day dress, while a slouchy nude trouser underscored the ease with which these clothes are meant to be worn. Øverland's appeal lies in her desire to mix such hard and soft elements to an effect that's both effortless and studied--it's fashion for a girl who likes to look sensational while she frets about other things.
