Nicole Miller - New York Spring 2009
(NEW YORK) She’s used Peru and Joan of Arc as themes in the past, and for her Spring 2009 show, Nicole Miller was no less specific: “Voodoo!” she exclaimed backstage before the show. “I just love the patterns, and the culture. I’m always inspired by ancient cultures.” A lace dress, beaded with a print of voodoo dolls, was luckily the most literal interpretation of her motif; though much of the rest of her collection was printed, striped, or embellished in Miller’s signature style. Her most successful looks were the solids, drapey jersey dresses with layered necklines, in basic black or bright magenta. Another standout: “winged” dresses and tops, with pleated wings fanning out from the straps that were gorgeous and intricate but still wearable.
