Malandrino - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2008
(NEW YORK) Malandrino found inspiration for spring while staying at the Colombe d’Or, a charming hotel in the south of France which was a favorite hangout for Matisse, Léger, and Braque. The organza cut into trapunto scallops, grape beading clusters, and pointelle knits, and ruching and draping effects all gave the clothes a loose yet geometric feel. The silhouettes were intricate and crafted, from overblown blouson sleeves, palazzo pants, and shoulder ruffles down to the models’ hair, swept in side buns. Malandrino has returned to the puff sleeves and beading that she used to do, which made this collection a veritable hit, exuding energy and youthfulness and striking a chord with the celebrities in attendance, solidifying the designer’s girly-French-chic-meets-Hollywood reputation.
