Prada - Milan Fashion Week Spring 2008
Miuccia Prada took us through the looking glass and into her very own fairytale world this season. The fantastical collection which featured fairies, flora, and fauna in rich, vibrant colors, is, in Miuccia's own words, "All the opposite of strong and powerful, everything curving." This dreamier and more delicate collection was peppered with nods to '60s Art Nouveau in its cubic prints, gilded looks, and monochromatic jumpsuits. The more elaborate prints resembled rich watercolor paintings. In playing with shape, she emphasized cut-outs in both the ready-to-wear necklines and accessories. As this season's challenge to herself, Miuccia decided on her choice of fabric. "Soft fabrics are boring to work with, so I made myself work with them to see what I could do. The prints were the main thing--they were done by us and with our illustrator Two by Four."
