Where can you find the best veggie burger in Brooklyn? Resin designer Chantel Valentene reveals why she loves Black Market.
"I am deeply addicted to this place, and all the treats they have to offer. Friends will trek from Williamsburg to meet and eat with me—and we know the Brooklynites now think Manhattan is the new Jersey. They flock for what my stomach calls 'The Trifecta of Happiness.' First, the drink: The Bad Seed. You start by implanting a little naughty into your night. A little lime, five-spiced brown sugar and aged rum served up. Next up: a half-dozen oysters, dished up with a red wine shallot mignonette and serrano salsa verde. Oysters are supposedly an aphrodisiac. Just saying. Finally, the pièce de résistance: The B BLK Mkt Vegetable Burger. This is easily the best veggie burger in the city. Meat and leaf eaters alike love this thing. Panko-crusted eggplant served with house tartar and the most mouth-watering shoestring french fries (just crispy enough, just enough salt, always served hot). I recommend adding the gruyère cheese for the ultimate experience. Not only is the BLK Mkt vegetable burger tasty, it is the essential part of the meal that fills the stomach to prevent hangovers the following morning. Black Market is my favorite place to pre-game. Most nights before we go out, you’ll find me at the back corner table with the crew partaking in the The Trifecta. Note for the gentlemen: If you are ending your night here, order “The Last Waltz:” two dozen oysters and a bottle of Veuve Clicquot. Follow it up with the Strawberry Shortcake. It works wonders.

Lacoste + Malandrino Spring 2011 View Gallery
Lacoste isn't showing in the the Tents this season, but that hasn't stopped the sportif label from showcasing its spring capsule collection with Catherine Malandrino today at the Cooper Square Hotel. This is the first collaboration for Lacoste, with prices ranging from $145 to $450--a discount from Malandrino's contemporary womenswear line. Word on the street is Bernard, Malandrino's hubby, has a hankering for the brand which prompted the ultra-femme designer to team up with the athletic aces. Chic got a sneak peak at the seventeen highly anticipated styles, and it's exactly what you'd expect from two French powerhouses: sleek, jet-set apparel for the athletic-minded woman. Lacoste's classic aesthetic was revamped with a pointelle polo maxi dress, day-to-night harlem pants, a slouchy cocoon cardigan, and an off-the-shoulder sweatshirt emblazoned with the words, "The Crocodile Loves You." Each piece boasts the adorable kissing crocs designed by Malandrino--one in brass yellow and one in aloe green--to signify the union of the French houses. Come April, the line will be available at Lacoste and Catherine Malandrino boutiques as well as Lacoste.com.

Everybody has an opinion on fashion, but Chic hit the streets to ask the true experts, the ladies who have seen it all, for their two-cents. Meet the lovely Ava, 86.
Who's your favorite designer? "Bob Mackie. He's a wonderful designer. I also like Oscar de la Renta and Edith Head."
What do you think of fashion people? "I was going to be a fashion designer in Europe, but I didn't like the fashion industry—too tough—so I became a package designer."
What winter trend are you over? "Ask a young girl."
What's your look for Spring? "I like the thirties look. I like deco! That was good fashion for women. Flattering, feminine, sheer, beautiful. If I were a designer, that's what I would bring back. I grew up in deco, actually."
What's one style that you can't stand in fashion? "The draping. It's not becoming. And if it's too short, it doesn't flatter."
What advice do you have for the kids during fashion week? "If you are confident in your work, you should relax."
Where do you shop? "Flea markets! I have a very good eye; I'm an artist."

Rachel Bilson got her feathers ruffled at the L.A. premiere of Waiting for Forever, working the tapis rouge in a gray Burberry cocktail dress trimmed in black leather. We wonder what her on-again boytoy Hayden Christensen thought of it...

This week, Chic caught up with Tommy Hilfiger and Lisa Birnbach, in the summery, airy Prep World beach house...in the middle of midtown. The duo's collab on a limited-edition capsule collection involves all the necessities and accoutrements for living preppy a la Tommy, housed in an East Hampton-inspired cottage that's doing a world tour this spring. But once you've been properly prepped out, what next?
So Tommy, what are you favorite preppy pastimes?
TH:I like playing tennis. Well, skiing is kind of preppy, isn’t it? I like beach volleyball. And anything tartan plaid, that’s for sure. I also love fishing, but that’s not preppy. My wife and I went to Mexico and we caught a 150-pound marlin. We actually had it stuffed and put it in my house in Mustique. I like New England, I love going to Newport and Nantucket, and I live in Greenwich.
What's your favorite catch of the Atlantic?
TH: Who doesn’t love a Maine lobster?
What are your other favorite preppy nibbles?
TH: Toasted cheese sandwiches with cheddar and hot chocolate. I don’t eat hot dogs anymore, but I do like hamburgers.
Do you have a favorite preppy libation?
TH: Ask Lisa, she’s the expert on drinks. I tend to go a traditional path, with an iced coffee in the summer.
OK, Lisa, what are your favorite preppy pastimes?
LB: I like to read the wedding pages in the Sunday Styles of the New York Times. And I like to have my cocktail. I also like watching tennis, and if my back is okay, to play it. I never scream when I watch it. Because that’s not nice! Just enjoy it quietly. For sports, it’s okay to be loud when you’re home and in your own living room.
Is it ever okay to get loud and raucous in the preppy world?
LB: I think preppies can get boisterous when it’s the hours late and they’ve had too much to drink. But you have to be judicious. Don’t scream a lot or it’s like the boy who cried wolf.
Go-to preppy libation?
LB: I'm very inclusive. Usually a martini in the winter and a vodka gimlet in the summer.
What’s the best preppy nibble?
LB: Grilled cheese, definitely.
What kind of cheese?
LB: American, of course! It’s not even cheese, it’s a faux cheese made out of petroleum or something.

This week, our motherhood expert Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia shares her tips for the mommy-to-be. Stacey should know! She's expecting herself.
"It seems that the baby bump is the accessory of spring. Despite morning sickness, strange cravings, and hot flashes, I feel quite fashion-appropriate. But even the cutest bump in the world isn't going to look ravishing in spring's brights and prints. Here's how to flatter:
1. Black! It covers many flaws! I layer: loose tanks, leggings, rights, boots… it works!
2. Boobs! They look amazing for 9 months, so you should enjoy them while you have them.
3. The Non-Maternity Maternity Pant! alice + olivia ponti pants rock, falke cotton touch tights, commando tights are saviors!
4. Great fits! Dresses that have a band or elastic right below the bust can actually make you look way bigger. I usually wear a loose tank top over a tight longer tank top, or stretchy skirt with tights. Boots help your legs look slimmer as the bump gets bigger!
5. Accessorize! Get your colors in with fun colored bags (thank you, Celine, Marni, Givenchy and Diane De Maria hot pinkness!), great shoes—your body might be growing, but your feet aren’t, so hello, Prada platforms. I'm a big fan of fun hair accessories, too.
6. Stay active! Yoga, twenty-minute walks... you're not hungover, so take advantage. I love yoga when pregnant. It completely makes everything in your body feel better. I mean, so does a margarita, but the yoga is better for your ass and baby.
7. Let your skin glow! I suggest a skin goddess who uses all-natural products. I recommend Dayle Breault-Hagag. I also swear by nutritionist Sally Kravich and Dr. Gowri Motha for their dietary tips, which help keep the skin and body clean and clear!"
