What really went on during London fashion week? Designer and Chic columnist Savannah Miller of Twenty8Twelve reports from across the pond.
"Last week, as I'm sure you are aware, was London Fashion Week. This season instead of getting involved in a show frenzy we decided it would be far more effective for us to have intimate one-on-one appointments with our favourite fashion editors from home and abroad. It was so calm compared to a show and was really well received which was fantastic. This collection is very textural and we have used some beautiful, sensual fabrics that really need to be touched to be appreciated. Here are some pictures of our look book for your pleasure. This collection won’t be in store 'til July though so this is a sneaky peak.
After our very busy weekend I hot footed it over to my dear friend Matthew Williamson’s show at the stunning Phillips de Pury gallery in Victoria, which is where we showed our SS10 collection. It was so great to be able to take in a show and have fun with friends during fashion week! Normally I am a complete zombie from weeks of sleepless nights preparing my own show, so it was a welcome break!
On Monday, we had a full-on day of designing SS2012 with our team in between Sienna's crazy rehearsal schedule. She is starring in a play directed by Sir Trevor Nunn opening on the 10th of March called Flare Path about the British bomber command in the second world war. If you have a trip planned this way I highly recommend you book tickets, it’s going to be amazing.
Then, the highlight of the week by far, was a trip to 10 Downing Street, our equivalent of the White House, where Anna Wintour and Samantha Cameron, our first lady, were hosting an evening in celebration of British fashion. Walking through that famous front door was a moment I will cherish forever! The idea behind the event was to introduce up and coming young British designers to the most influential international buyers. My favourite buyer from your side of the pond, Ken Downing of Neiman Marcus, was there in all his glory. We laughed a lot and compared notes on our puppy dogs. All the movers and shakers of the British fashion scene were there, including Christopher Bailey of Burberry, Christopher Kane, Erdem, Charlotte Olympia, Phoebe Philo, Kate Moss, Mario Testino, Louise Wilson of St Martins, and Stella Tennant. Everywhere you turned there was someone more fabulous...
Then I went for steak at Dean Street Townhouse with my best friends Francesca Burns and Chris Simmonds, who are also our Twenty8Twelve look book stylist and art director, respectively. Dean Street is part of the Soho House group of hotels and I think it is the best one by far. Why don't you go there for dinner after you see Sienna's play? Now there's an idea...
Until next time,

No chauffered Mercedes-Benz? No problem. The thrifty Suzy Menkes, who famously keeps a taxi on retainer during Milan Fashion Week, has the more luxury-hobbled editrixes beat when it comes to efficiency. If you were wondering why a cab zipped out of Bottega Veneta's freight entrance merely seconds after the show ended...you know who got him the access.

Cass Bird/T Magazine View Gallery
(MILAN) What a nice surprise to score a copy of today's T (Sally Singer's second issue) outside Emporio Armani. On the cover? A Cass Bird photograph of the flawless Salma Hayek smoking a match, accompanied by a coverline proclaiming her "The Hollywood Firebrand With the World's Best Closet." Sans doute! So imagine our disappointment to see photographs...of the star (and wife of François-Henri Pinault) in a could-be-anywhere kitchen, among other lackluster backgrounds. Where are the clothes? Where is the divine home? Where is that tantalizing closet? Quel tease, Sally! Speaking of: thoughts on the new T? We welcome your comments...
