Weekend Sales Report: Lanvin Gone, Altuzurra Partout
A weekend walk-through at Barneys New York unearthed a few revealing truths about what's selling, what's not: essentially all the good Lanvin has been snatched up in the last week. Clearly, the pre-sale crowd went crazy for Elbaz's Spring 2010 collection. Gowns? Gone. Jackets? Only a few left. Meanwhile, there's scores of Altuzarra to go around—a half-dozen suede jackets that are still weighing in around 4 figures. (It's the nature of the beast. Outerwear in June...) Meanwhile, the Isabel Marant pieces are firmly not 40% off, like almost everything else on the Co-Op floor. And while there's still an epic shoe collection, the smaller sizes are becoming decimated. Decreased orders + an economy that just might be bouncing back = do not wait for the next markdown. A summer without any new Dries? Now who can afford that?

Spotted in Lincoln Center
Gilles Mendel, Joey Jalleo, Lisa Airan, and other Mendel-philes congregating by the fountain on Saturday night for the New York City Ballet premiere of "Call Me Ben," which features costumes created by Mendel soi-même. With music by teen prodigy Jay Greenberg and choreography by Melissa Barak, the youngest choreographer ever to be commissioned by the company, surely the above-mentioned chicsters won't be the only ones heading to the David Koch Theater.

Why we have to sit, wait and twiddle our thumbs until 2011 when the LV cases will finally be released we don’t really know, but we do know that we are intrigued. The fashion set is getting its own piece of the World Cup. Louis Vuitton recently unveiled its hefty leather case that will carry the trophy to South Africa next week. Trophies, of all things, should voyage in style, non? Since 1930, the prize has always been transported in a metal carrier, so it's about time to switch things up. “There was no reason why security couldn’t be synonymous with elegance," declared Chic icon Antoine Arnault.
