We Love Hilary! We Love Hilary!

We're ecstatic that the beautiful and lovely Hilary Rhoda is writing a column about her life and adventures for Chic Report.  This week, she reveals what's off her bucket list, what she did for Easter and much more!

"April has been an exciting month. I can't believe it is coming to an end! Kicking off my favorite time of the year is my birthday, which is on April 6th. I happened to be working in the Mojave desert, which was certainly memorable! We shot at an awesome movie set where Lady Gaga recently did her music video for Telephone. Brana Wolf and the lovely crew had a cake ready and surprised me during our lunch break. How thoughtful!

When I returned home, I taped a segment for CBS Morning News to raise awareness for the charity I'm involved in, New Yorkers for Children. The annual Spring Gala was just days away, an event that many look forward to all year long. The event raised over $500,000, helping youth in foster care to become successful, self-sufficient adults.

During the week of the New Yorkers for Children gala, I was also shooting some new online makeup tutorials for Estee Lauder. I have done these in the years past and they have been so successful that now the brand will be selling them as DVDs along with the makeup and skincare packages for customers to learn their own tricks from makeup pro Tom Pecheux! Also exciting news is that not only will I be featured in the tutorials with Tom but so will the other Estee Lauder spokeswomen: Joan Smalls, Constance Jablonski, Liu Wen, and Elizabeth Hurley. I cant wait for you all to see the new videos, coming soon...

A couple weeks later, I went from minding my elegant train on my Chloé dress at "A Fools Fete," to "shaking my bon bon" at a Ricky Martin concert! My friend Derek Blasberg had invited me and we made our way to the Prudential Center one Saturday night in a torrential downpour. Ricky still hit all the notes and moves I remembered from my days in middle school. After the show we got to meet him and he was very gracious. Now I can finally check off a Ricky Martin concert from my bucket list!

Last week, I took my brother Spencer to the opening season of the New York City Opera with a concert and Gala. Kristen Chenoweth and Victor Garber were among the special guests who performed some of the popular songs written by Stephen Schwartz, who was being honored that evening. To be honest, Spencer and I did not know what we were getting ourselves into. We were expecting a lady with horns and norwegian braids to start singing at the top of her lungs and break glass somewhere! The night turned out to be extremely fun. It was very special to see a performance of the work by Mr. Schwartz, who composed hit music and lyrics from Wicked and Pippin to films such as Pocahontas and Enchanted.

The next day we drove back to D.C. for Easter with my family and to watch game five of the Rangers/Capitals playoff series. Spencer was rooting for the Caps and I was pulling for the Rangers so it did get a little tense. Thankfully my Mom was sitting in between us! Easter brunch was so delicious and it was so nice to spend time with my grandparents. Driving back to N.Y. that night was a nightmare because of the holiday traffic, but we made it in one piece. Not one to stay in one place for too long, I was off to JFK. I am in Napa Valley at the moment for a photo shoot with Peter Lindbergh, and it is just gorgeous! Good thing I just got into wine, so now I will be able to appreciate a couple glasses with my dinner!!

Right now you can catch me in new covers and editorials for Tatler Russia, Vogue Russia, and W Korea. Looking forward to the Met Gala on Monday night. I'll be giving you my recap of the night next week! Until then....

In Sergioland this time around, Chic tags along for a lookbook shoot, a rollicking Russian family gathering and even - gasp! - a moment's worth of manual labor at the Marie Claire offices. As always, Sergio's got a smorgasbord of new artists to add to your iTunes this week, thanks to his neverending stream of interviews for work and concert jaunts for play. In case you don't know the fabulous TGIF drill, the Daily's "The Assistant Files" kicked off with Sergio Kletnoy, and each week we're following his escapades as Marie Claire EIC Joanna Coles' gatekeeper. Make that assistant to the Editor of the Year, as per Adweek's haute Hot List. And don't forget to peruse the Gallery of Sergio's fantastic photographic evidence!

Sunday, 9 a.m.
I woke up at my cousin’s house in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, as far away from downtown Manhattan as Tara Reid is from an Oscar-winning role. I was there to celebrate my grandma’s birthday, as well as my own, with a family BBQ. Picture it: a house full of screaming kids and my entire Russian mishpucha. Dante’s fifth ring of hell, anyone? I was counting the minutes until my 3 p.m. train back to civilization. Don’t get me wrong, I love my family. But I was eager to get back for the dinner feast that my friends, Scott and Tara (Tara wants you to know that she’s super skinny), were throwing in my honor. Cut to me at midnight passed out at the dinner table after four bottles of white wine, face planted in a box of Georgetown Cupcakes. Note to self: elastic waist jeans for the rest of the week.

Monday, 8:50 a.m.
On my way to work, I spotted Caroline Kennedy in Central Park walking her dog. Yoohoo, Caroline, I just spoke with your Aunt Ethel last week. Shall we get tea on the books? Arrived at the office to a flurry of emails clogging JoCo’s inbox. MAJOR news. Marie Claire was named the #2 magazine of the year on Adweek’s annual Hot List, Hearst was crowned Publisher of the Year, and THE BOSS walked away with Editor Of The Year. (That makes me Assistant of the Year, right?) Later that evening, I found myself at the premiere of Mark Ruffalo’s directorial debut, Sympathy For Delicious, at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema on the Lower East Side. I was caught in a celebrity vortex: Orlando Bloom to my right, Laura Linney (who I was lucky enough to interview last year) to my left, and a scruffy-looking Mark right in front of me. Of course, none of that mattered because, out of the corner of my eye, I spied Crystal Connors, a.k.a. Gina Gershon, taking the empty seat a row in front of me. OMFG. Showgirls’ resident bitch was in the house! Very discretely, I leaned over and took a whiff of her hair. Just as I suspected: lilacs and patent leather. LOL, just kidding…

Tuesday, 3:30 p.m.
Work, work, work. Yadda, yadda, yadda. By late afternoon, I had to rush downtown for an interview with the adorable and super talented singer-songwriter Eliza Doolittle from, you guessed it, England. (Eliza is what you’d get if you paired Mika with Lily Allen.) We met on the Lower East Side, where I dragged Eliza and her publicist to a nearby park full of rambunctious children who clearly haven’t seen a warm sunny day since last year. Eliza, with her long curly hair and perpetual smile, is all sunshine—and it was as if New York City knew she was in town because the day could not have been nicer. Following her massive success across the pond, Eliza is ready to conquer the U.S., and I guarantee you that after the first listen of her single “Pack Up," you’ll be humming it for days. MUST DOWNLOAD NOW!

Wednesday, 5:45 p.m.
My friend Tara (the super-skinny one) is a publicist, and asked Amanda Hearst and me to appear in the lookbook for a new line of eco-friendly bags called "Fashion. Love, Africa." (A percentage of the proceeds from the bags, available on FashionloveAfrica.com, go to benefit the entire community in Nakuru, Kenya.) Amanda is one of those annoying girls that never takes a bad photo. Me, on the other hand? I’m the reason Photoshop was invented. But I gave the camera my best Blue Steel and hoped for the best. Later that evening my friend Laney, who was celebrating her birthday, invited me to see Greyson Chance in concert. Greyson is a 13-year-old piano-playing prodigy who was discovered a year ago performing Lady GaGa’s “Paparazzi"  on YouTube. Watch out, Bieber. This kid had 600 screaming girls practically throwing themselves onstage, three of whom fainted in front of me and had to be carried out. (Seriously.) So get this: Backstage, Greyson told me he shares a manager with - brace yourself - Madonna. He said he’d do his best to get me in. OMG! One step closer! Don’t play with my emotions, kid! P.S. be sure to check out Greyson’s debut single “Waiting Outside The Lines.”

Thursday, 7:50 a.m.
You all probably think I have one of the most glamorous jobs in New York City. That’s generally true, except this morning I had to do some manual labor (sad face). I was setting up extra chairs in our conference room, ordering breakfast, and hanging posters in anticipation of the arrival of Glee’s resident diva, Amber Riley. Joanna invited honor roll students from her son’s school to join MC staffers in a Q&A with Miss Mercedes herself, who graces the cover of our May issue. Afterwards, I escorted Amber and her stylist, Anthony Bradshaw, into the fashion closet where they ogled all the shoes and clothing racks. Just another day at the office for Adweek’s Assistant of the Year. Until next week…

North Dakota JC Penney gets makeover! Oh, Google alerts. What are we gonna do with you?

Is Carine Roitfeld designing her own fashion label? Mystery! Intrigue! The leaked pics! Maybe someone should just ask her.

Thor's Chris Hemsworth looks very pretty in Interview.

Donna Karan loves Virgos

Want to look like Lorenzo Martone? We reveal how.

Chic does the unforgivable: We forgot it was Tavi's 15th birthday! How could we? We did get her backstage passes to Bieber to make it up to her.

David Barton gets a New York Times profile. It's a good read.

Karl Lagerfeld turns already yummy Baptiste Giabiconi into chocolate. Watch the video to learn more.

Contrasts in Chic! Ines and Robbie Myers Discuss Parisian and NYC Style

On Wendesday evening, Chic moseyed into the Roger Vivier boutique for an intimate fête hosted by Elle editrix Robbie Myers in celebration of Parisian ChicInes de la Fressange's new tome to style sensibility in the City of Lights. From the power of a good vintage leather jacket to the rationale behind New Yorkers' perma-black wardrobes, the hostess and guest of the hour were keen on sharing some nuggets of style wisdom with Chic!

Ines de la Fressange:
What’s the most unexpected element of Parisian chic?
Uptown women in New York might be surprised to hear that you should keep all clothes from old seasons. I think some people here tonight would not expect to hear that advice.

Is a highbrow-lowbrow approach to dressing chic or not?
Yes! Go to Uniqlo and H&M to buy things, and wear them with brand items. You should mix it up.

Which beloved treasure in your closet is from countless seasons ago?
I have a very, very old leather jacket. Maybe it looks better as it’s gotten older! It’s much nicer than when it was brand new. I bought it on sale years ago from a brand that’s nothing, and I love it!

Robbie Myers:
What are the secrets of New York chic?
I think that New Yorkers don’t want to look overdone. The French think Americans are so perfect, and they want us to be a little messier and looser.

How do you feel about bicoastal style paradigms?
New York style is very different from L.A. chic. In L.A., it’s all so done and studied, even though women there try to be natural-looking. I’m very interested in these two classic American poles of style.

You’re clad in black right now – what do you think of the enduring love affair between New Yorkers and noir frockery?
It’s obviously pretty functional in a dirty, street-based culture. New Yorkers are busy, and you don’t have to think too hard about wearing it. We’re also thought of as being sort of dark. But I think it’s one New York classic; I think there are lots of New York classics.

Wedding Tales from The Toledos

Chic checked in with Ruben and Isabel Toledo just days before the royal wedding to find out how their own love story came about...

How did you propose to Isabel?
I don't even remember how I proposed--it's embarrassing! I met this woman when I was 13 and got married to her when I was 24. It was love at first sight. There was no question she was going to be my wife.

What was your wedding like?
It was so small, teeny-weeny. Just some family in a church, then it started pouring rain. It was really beautiful.

Any standout date moments?
The best dates are happening now! When we were kids, we worked so much that it didn't feel like a date. Now we get to have grown-up dates like drinking wine at Big Sur.
IT: Take me on a date, honey!
RT: I will... anytime.

It always brightens our day when we see that Valentino was out on the town. The legendary designer and Giancarlo Giammetti attended The Cinema Society screening of Thor in Manhattan last night. Good to see the boys can still enjoy a night out!
