Swiss Skype
Yesterday Bergdorf Goodman and W Magazine hosted a special preview of Albert Kriemler’s Akris Fall/Winter 2010 Collection, and special it certainly was. Centered at the unveiling was a large projection screen that was connecting Kriemler to the event via Skype, presidential conference-style. From his studio in St. Gallen, Switzerland, Kriemler elegantly described specific inspirations for his new line from the Mountain Lake to the pine green forest and declared his pieces were “made like a fine German car.” All the while, Linda Fargo and W’s Alex White helped facilitate the show and interact more directly with the audience. Fargo was excited by this idea of “beaming him up,” although she admitted that this Star Trek reference was not very relevant to her since she had never seen the films or the cult TV shows. “I’m just excited to lose my Skype virginity at work,” she smiled.

A Musical Interlude
She might be causing controversy all over MTV and Twitter but Tuesday night, M.I.A. was a most congenial hostess while celebrating her Nylon cover at the Mondrian hotel in L.A.. (Chic overheard one guest gushing after a random run-in with the signer.) The fête celebrating the mag's annual music issue brought out a bevy of VIPs, who enjoyed a candle-lit dinner by Lacoste. Among the revellers? Taryn Manning, Lindsay Lohan, Agyness Deyn donning insanely short locks, plus a slew of off-duty vamp-show alums (think Christian Serratos, Natasha Alam, Candice Accola.). While LiLo and sister Ali kept it low-key without any SCRAM scares, a live and oh-so-glam performance by the Semi Precious Weapons had countless guests up and swaying incessantly around the pool—Belvedere cocktails always in hand (natch). In fact, the upstairs VIP banquets were so surrounded by vibrantly hip and hardly star-struck attendees the celeb could only be spotted when the paps' flash bulbs lit up. How very La-La, non?

Solstice with the Mostess
What’s the best way to get someone excited for the hot and wonderful days of summer? A cold mojito and a beautiful beach might do the trick, but a sunglass buffet can also put pretty much anyone into a seasonal delirium. Safilo USA and its Solstice Flatiron location hosted a bash this week to launch the été and to hype up the brands’ Summer Solstice promotion, going on in all 150 locations nationwide. Recognizable faces like Olivia Munn, Maria Bello, Katrina Bowden, and Whitney Port were welcomed with mini lobster roll appetizers and complete access to the store’s current collections---with each guest eventually taking home a pair. “This will probably take a little while for me,” smiled Tristan Wilds. And for a good reason: Munn, Bello and others had a hard time choosing between the incredible brands in the shop: Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior and many, many others. “This is one way to make a girl completely happy!” exclaimed Bowden.

Carolyn Murphy, Stunt Woman?
Carolyn Murphy can add stunt woman to her impressive resume following this feature appearance in Ryan McGinley’s exclusive short film. McGinley shot the Estee Lauder beauty using a Phantom camera for the Entrance Romance: It Felt Like a Kiss short, and makeup artist James Kaliardos provided Murphy with her sunkissed California girl look. In the film, Murphy plays with fire, stands still while a vase is smashed over her head, and shares a few intimate moments with her co-star...who is a dog. Don’t believe us? Check out the entire short film at Nowness.com.

A Treat For the Heat
When Chic has a hankering for ice cream, we don’t just settle for a pint and a spoon! Luckily, we have Tribeca Treats to turn to. The trendy bakery has been tempting us all year with its chocolatey wares, but the ice cream sandwiches have really put us over the edge! Head confectionista Rachel Thebault has picked the perfect time to debut these decorated delectables. Enjoy a delicious treat and battle the heat? Pas mal.
