Vuitton Can't Buy Happiness?
Didn't we always know Louis Vuitton operated on a higher level? Italian artist Francesco De Molfetta created this logo-emblazoned statue of the Virgin Mary for a biennial exhibition of sacred art in Abruzzo, although he's not exactly declaring the divinity of the revered Marc Jacobs-helmed brand. De Molfetta describes the work as "[denouncing] a society based on the cult of appearance through the use of a brand that represents the search for ephemeral happiness.” We'll concede that logo-mania may be a bit out of hand---but denouncing Vuitton? Sounds like blasphemy to Chic.

The Ability to Love Cashmere
Chic Report (and New Yorker) obsession Brunello Cucinelli's Fall 2010 ad campaign has just been released, and as much as we're loving this near-perfect New York weather, it's looking oh-so appealing to cozy up with some of Cucinelli's famous cashmere. This image, shot by Christian Moser, is described as an "homage to Asia, so far and yet so near, a land of nomads, emperors and monks, the productive land of tenacious, gentle peasants, a land of bold warriors and subtle thinkers, where spirituality is in the soul of everyone, free and faithful only to the heart." The slogan? The most beautiful thing in life is the ability to love. Done and done, darling!

Quote of The Daily: If Dresses Could Talk Edition
"Ms. Clinton’s dress... suggested a completely different relationship with fashion — even, perhaps, an ambivalent one. We do not really know anything about Ms. Clinton’s style, and in a way her pretty dress, with its modestly embellished waist and romantic layers, reflects a woman whose focus is not directed in that way, and maybe is not that vain." ---Cathy Horyn on Chelsea Clinton's "not especially high-styled" Vera Wang wedding dress, in The New York Times

Dosvedanya, Aliona!
You have to give to the Russians: they know how to throw an unforgettable party, even if it’s to toast something as unexpected as Aliona Doletskaya’s oh-so-sudden departure. Staffers, friends, designers, and models, like Natalia Vodianova, gathered at the Bosco café in Moscow’s Red Square this week for toasts, flowers, and a last official dinner with the outgoing Vogue editrix. What's next for the Russian? A deserved two-week Spanish vacation!

Modern Vintage
Giorgio Armani’s newest optical venture is vintage-inspired, and Chic joined the Italian fashion label at their Fifth Avenue flagship last night for a trip down memory lane. Guests of Armani’s Frames of Life Collection kick-off made their way up the store’s impressively white and winding staircase to the third floor, where cocktails were waiting (bien sûr). Armani’s newest pieces were on display, along with their 1980s rounded-frame counterparts, creating a wonderfully hip déjà-vu effect. We highly encourage those with less than 20/20 to pounce on these spectacular spectacles!
