Didn't see this coming! Janet Jackson has surprisingly launched her own fur collection with Blackglama that will be comprised of coats, jackets, vests, scarves, gloves and other accessories that will use a combo of mink and leather. The line will be sold at select Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale's stores sometime this month. Insert predictable PETA joke here.

Still looking for one last thing to include on the Thanksgiving day menu?Jason Cauchi of Dallin Chase sent us in this super easy recipe for Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts. Delish! 

 

"My wife Grace and mother-in-law run the show on Thanksgiving," he told Chic. "From the farm-raised turkey to all the trimmings they manage all the details. A few years back I was able to try out an appetizer we had at a restaurant for the big day. It was so easy and good that it stuck."

 

Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts

 

Ingredients:

2 cans whole water chestnuts

1 lb. bacon

1/4 cup soy sauce

2 generous tbsp. dark brown sugar

toothpicks 

 

Directions: Mix the soy sauce and brown sugar together in a bowl to make a syrup. Drain water chestnuts and add to the mixture. Marinate covered in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (I've let marinate for as little as 15 minutes and as long as 2 hours). Cut bacon in half. Wrap chestnuts in bacon and secure with toothpick. Place on a rack in a baking sheet. Lightly brush marinate on wrapped chestnuts and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, or until caramelized.

Poor Mr. Turkey thought it was gonna be all about him this week, but it's clearly turning out to be Gaga week in America. Not only does she have an ABC special with Katie Couric airing on Thanksgiving evening, but the Lady hit the New Museum last night to spend some time with Terry Richardson to celebrate their duet. As we're sure you've heard, they've joined forces on a new book, Lady Gaga x Terry Richardson that will no doubt be under every Christmas tree this season. Anybody feeling a little full? Nah!

We're clearly in the moody for foodie today: Jessie Randall of Loeffler Randall makes more than shoes. Today, she serve's up her Nana's Recipe for Swedish Meatballs...

 

"The Swedish meatballs tie in my Swedish heritage," Jessie told us. "The chocolate balls are named after my great grandmother, which is where middle name, Loeffler, comes from.” 

 

Swedish Meatballs:


Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 medium onion, grated

2 thin slices of bread, crumbled (Rub the slice of bread between your hands to crumble it)

1 beef boullion cube dissolved in 1/3 cup water

1/2 teaspoon allspice

Salt and pepper


Directions 

Combine all ingredients. Form mixture into balls (Swedish are quite small). Brown in small amount of butter in skillet at 350 degrees. After 10-15 minutes, transfer meatballs to oven proof dish, cover, and keep warm in slow oven. These can be made ahead and reheated at low temperature in the oven or microwave. This recipe serves 3-4 as part of a buffet; it multiplies easily.

 

Emilie Loeffler Dahlberg's Chocolate Nut Balls

Ingredients

6 oz. package semi-sweet chocolate bits

3 tablespoons white Karo syrup

1/2 cup orange juice

2 1/2 cups crushed vanilla wafers

1/2 cup confectioner's sugar

1 cup ground nut meats

Granulated sugar


Directions 

Melt chocolate over hot water. Remove from heat and add syrup and orange juice. Combine crushed wafers, confectioner's sugar, and nuts. Add chocolate and mix well. Let stand in refrigerator about 1 hour. Form into 1-inch balls and roll in granulated sugar. Let stand uncovered about 1/2 hour before storing. Makes 50-60 balls.

"My grandmother sent these to me every holiday no matter where I was in the world, no matter how old I got," Rachel told us. "It wasn't the holidays without them, and now I do the same for my girls...'the cookies get better with age, as do we,’ -Irene Monsma."

Swedish Cookies 

Ingredients: ½ pound butter, ½ cup powdered sugar, 1 ¾ cup sifted flour, 1 cup nuts, grated (chopped finely), ½ tsp almond flavoring, 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions: Mix cream, butter, and sugar. Add nuts and flour. Chill in refrigerator. Drop rounded half-teaspoons of dough onto a cookie sheet. Flatten slightly with fingers. Bake 12-15 minutes at 350°F or until light brown. Don’t overbake! They burn easily. Roll in powdered sugar while still warm.

Note on the original recipe card: These cookies improve with age—and Aunt Nellie added (on the recipe she gave me a long time ago) so do people!  In that case I should have improved considerably by now. –Mom
