So many holidays, so little time. There's Thanksgiving, Hannakuh, and Christmas. Kwanzaa and Festivus for the rest of us. Oh, and we can't forget National Fruitcake Day, the most important of all. Lucky for us, The Beverly Room's Mauri Weakley is back in action this week to outfit our Chic readers in her latest party-worthy frocks from the forties and beyond. Get 'em while they're hot!
It's not even Thanksgiving yet but I'm already thinking about those holiday parties on the horizon. I'm also completely obsessed with Tumblr--as a virtual inspiration board for myself and an endless source of images posted by others. The particular one I find myself sucked into as of late is devoted entirely to the singular Kate Moss. Not only is she decidedly the greatest supermodel on the planet, but she is the unrivaled style icon of our generation. If you too have followed Ms. Moss and her celebrated high-low personal style over the last 15 years or so, do yourself a favor and buy Kate Moss Style.
Superficially, it appears to be one of those decorative hard-bound coffee table books. However, I read the entire thing cover to cover in the bathtub over the course of a couple evenings. Totally immersed in the chronicling of Kate's wardrobe, the book is filled with the history behind those iconic vintage pieces we've seen her wear from the Johnny Depp to the Jefferson Hack to the Pete Doherty days. There was the "Shampoo" backless black sequined number, the Madame Gres goddess gown, and countless little black dresses from Montaldo's among so many more.
So, holiday parties + Kate Moss = beads, sequins, rhinestones, chiffon, and furs, from sweeping floor lengths to thigh skimming minis.
Fortunately, The Beverly Room has a growing collection of Oleg Cassini beaded and sequined slip dresses, 1970s floor length chiffon gowns, and a selection of one of a kind little black dresses with their own bells and whistles that would all fit the bill. Not to mention furs of every shade and shape. And velvet! It would seem I've been subconsciously influenced by perhaps one of the best dressed party goers of all time. You should be too! You don't have to have the budget, body, or the life of Kate to embrace her style. It's all about loving clothes and having fun with (and in) them!
To shop the entire collection online, go to TheBeverlyRoom.com or visit Mauri at The Beverly Room inside the Garage on 25th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues every Saturday and Sunday.

It's been a taxing week for our dear Sergio, super-asssistant to Marie Claire's EIC Joanna Coles: the carnivorous cheeseburger lover gets vegan-ed for a meal (but a Chic fave from the Gossip Girl cast was on hand, so we don't feel too bad about the tofu treatment). Plus, a beloved MC pal who's provided ample fodder and fashion closet photo opps for Sergio bids adieu. And, obviously, lots of Madonna love and much more!
Monday, 7 p.m.
Met up with one of my friends, Billie Lee, who is not only an amazing hairstylist, but also the BFF of Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf, aka Leighton Meester. A few months ago, Billie became a vegan, so naturally, her new mission in life is to convert all of her friends into healthy-living-downward-dogging-ashram-hopping super-beings. We met up at her fave NYC vegeterian spot, called Blossom, on 21st street and 9th Ave, where I was forced to try things I would normally spackle my walls with (Seitan Empanadas and African Peanut Stew, anyone?). But, as it turns out, my vegan metamorphosis wasn’t that painful. I guess Billie might have a point after all: maybe it’s time I gave cheeseburgers and steaks the heave-ho and started a clean slate. Maybe! Did I mention that Leighton came along and kept an eye on both of us?

Last night THE BOSS received an ACE Award for Magazine of the Year from the Accessories Council, a major trade group in the fashion industry. Needless to say, JoCo swung into the office on a natural high, just in time for her meeting with the Sicilian bor fellow Brit, Antonio Berardi. The man and his designs are legendary—everyone from Kylie Minogue, Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez, SJP, Rihanna and (Queen of the Universe) Madonna have rocked his incredible dresses. The coolest thing about him? He kinda-sorta put a smack down on Lady Gaga when he said that he had no desire to work with her. (I think I may have just become his #1 fan, LOL!) As THE BOSS was deep in conversation with this shy genius, the congratulatory flowers for her ACE Award began arriving. Within 15 minutes, her entire desk was covered in roses, peonies and orchids from her friends at Chanel, Burberry, Armani, Max Mara – basically the entire Manhasset mall line-up. I got a little jealous and felt left out, thinking, but what about me?! Was anyone going to send me anything for being the bestest fiercest coolest assistant ever? Oh, wait a minute, as the saying goes, ask and you shall receive: a new song from Madonna, “Give Me All Your Love,” has just leaked… That’ll do!

Tower Heist. Four words… EDDIE MURPHY IS BACK! OK, two more: MUST SEE!
Thursday, 7:30 p.m.
Ch-ch-ch-changes… Kaput, aufiderzein, so long. Stayed late at the office helping my partner in crime, Taylor Tomasi Hill, pack up her belongings as she abandons me for someone new. Like last season’s gladiator sandals, or an old pair of harem pants, she’s leaving me and I am left here to pick up the shattered pieces. In case you’re the only one who hasn’t heard, Taylor is leaving Marie Claire to become artistic director at Moda Operandi, the online fashion retailer, which allows members to pre-order directly from the runway. To be honest, I had no idea what Moda Operandi was. My first reaction? Sounds like an 80’s new wave band—but knowing Taylor, although she’s super stylish, she can’t sing worth a damn. Anyway, my main concern here? Me, of course. Who’s going to get me new Mykita sunglasses? Who’s going to snag me the latest Givenchy high tops? Who will I gossip with at the end of the day? Who am I going to play with in the fashion closet after a long day at work? Whoever it is, you have a big pair of Proenza Schoulers to fill, but here are a few hints to make your new job at Marie Claire much easier: I love sunglasses, my shoe size is 8, I have a 30-inch waist, I like my tees in a size small, and I love baseball caps.

This week’s mixtape: “Down With The Trumpets” by the British hip-hop duo Rizzle Kicks. This badass tune is a mixture of hip-hop and pop, and sounds like old school hip-hop, a la Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. Next up is “Take Care" by Drake and Rihanna. The song is from Drake’s upcoming sophomore album and is truly a life changing experience. Another collaboration, “Like Smoke” Amy Winehouse and Nas. Not much to say, except for what could have been… Another week, another Brit discovery, “New Age” by Marlon Roudette, the song sounds exactly like one of my fave bands, One Republic, and it is a smash. And finally—I saved the best for last—a cover of XX’s “Shelter” by the 15-year-old British singer-songwriter and piano wizard, Birdy. A cross between Tori Amos and Adele, she is destined to become HUGE! No wonder I am so hung up on the Brits, while the U.S. keeps popping out crap like Ke$ha and that other clown, who I shall not name, England is churning out the excruciatingly talented Birdy and Adele.

The Armani Hotel Milano opened last night and celebrated with a cocktail party that included Maggie Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard, Jessica Alba, Olivia Palermo, Lauren Remington Platt, Roberta Armani, and naturally, Giorgio Armani. The 95-room hotel is located in the heart of the city, within the palazzo at Via Manzoni 31, includes a 24 hour gym, indoor pool, a spa and The Armani/Ristorante. We. Want. To. Go. There. Should we reserve our room for MFW now, darling?

Since we've still got a little bit of Angel-ness on our minds (it's hard not to this week!), here's a bit more of Chic's adventures backstage during the VS fashion show. The $13 million dollar production was held, yet again, in the 69th Regiment Armory, more commonly known as the Lexington Armory...Or, for the fashion flock, that place where the Marc shows are held. But given the display cases brimming with all sorts of serious-looking military regalia in the lobby, Chic had to ask: What would YOU be doing in the Army?
Joan Smalls: “I'd probably be in the Air Force, but I'm really more of a lover, not a fighter. Funny thing is, when I was in high school I actually took the military exam, just for the fun of it. People don’t really know that about me. I did it because I wanted to see if I could pass it, and if I was up for the challenge. I did end up passing the test—suddenly everyone was contacting me! The Navy, the Army, the Air Force, they were all calling my house. My father was like, “my baby is not going to the army! Wrong number, she doesn’t live here.’"
Karmen Pedaru: “Intelligence sounds sexy. I also think it would be fun to be on one of those really big boats in the Marines. When I was 16, I went to the naval academy for their summer seminar. I think when you take the PSATs, colleges start sending you stuff; I got a flier in the mail to go to the naval academy. I thought it would be an exciting experience—it was actually really inspiring! I come from a liberal family, and a lot of the people there come from a background where their parents and grandparents have served in the army. It was a very sweet way to see the army—and not the type of depiction you often get from the media."
Lily Aldridge: "Maybe a cook. I don't think I'd be useful anywhere else. Thank god for our millitary."
Jacquelyn Jablonski: "I'd be in the navy. Planes scare me. I like the water and the ocean."
Doutzen Kroes: "Sargeant! I would lead, no?"
Alessandra Ambrosio: "I would fly a plane. I'd be a pilot for the Air Force."

It's been awhile since Chic spotted Jessica Stam out on the town. Thankfully, we bumped into her ogling the Picturing Marilyn exhibit at Milk Studios last night.
I almost had a Marilyn Monroe moment on the way here! Our taxi dropped us off about a block too far, so I was walking back in this Dior dress and it almost blew up with the wind. I have a lot of those moments when I walk over subway grates in the city.
If you had one week with Marilyn, what would you do?
I’d want to go pumpkin picking with her.
If you could be anyone in the world, besides Marilyn Monroe, who would you choose?
I’d say a camp instructor. I think it would be fun and you’d get to be outdoors a lot.
Are you an outdoorsy person?
What do you like to do?
Swim and…like, you know, go hiking and canoeing.
Who's your iconic crush?
Christie Brinkley just walked in. I find her really inspiring.
OK, time for a Marilyn movie quiz. Fill in the blanks!
Oh, I’m not going to be good at this.
