Dance On, Royce!

We're sad to hear about the death of the legendary Royce Reed, who passed away in her sleep on Tuesday night. The supremely old-school Hollywood resident came to our attention in 2009 when footage of her dancing to Engelbert Humperdinck's "Quando Quando" went viral. (Words we don't write every day!) Reed's YouTube videos with her roomie Marilyn Hoggatt (who died last year) alongside a big bunny became an internet sensation. In 1999 Reed told LA Weekly: "I'm a clothes person, a fashion person. I was raised by rich, rich, elegant people who bought only the finest, everything made to order. You cannot handle anything else as a woman—it is your life." Watch Reed get down one more time!

Tuesday marked Priscilla: Queen of the Desert's first anniversary on Broadway...and the celebrations were anything but a drag. (Har.) Not only did the show win the 2011 Tony for best costume design, but Tony Sheldon (aka Bernadette) earned a best leading actor Tony nom. Sheldon's had a busy week, popping over to one of Australia's most famed bakeries, Pie Face, at its new outpost on 53rd and Broadway to see the unveiling of the limited-edition "Priscilla Pink Pie Face Pie." Yes, really—it's a delish raspberry confection with a layer coulis dipped in pink glaze and doused in sparkle. Then it was off to the TKTS Booth in Times Square, where pep squad Cheer New York "serenaded" the crowds with a special Priscilla cheer. Done? We think not!  Chic snuck backstage for a moment with Sheldon himself. Peruse the Gallery, people!

Who’s your favorite Tony?
Well, my partner’s name is Tony, and mother’s name is Tony so I have two favorites, actually.

What are their signs?
My partner’s a Taurus and my mother’s an Aries. I’m a Virgo. On paper, we’re not supposed to get along!

Are you a frequent road tripper?
We lived in Melbourne when I was a kid, and my dad would say, 'Want to go for a drive?'  Two days later, we'd end up in Brisbane!

Have you ever experienced a wardrobe malfunction with these costumes?
We had a monstrous matinee one day. I knocked glasses and wigs off into the wings. Then I fell over before I made an entrance and shredded my legs completely, ripped all the stockings...

But the show went on!
Yes! Then I got onto the bus on stage, and in all the confusion, an entire costume was gone. I played the rest of the first act in my underwear.

The show is full of references to Les Girls. Do they really exist?
They do! My character was based on Carlotta. She’s a legend. She had the first public sex change in Australia, you know.

Are you the Bernadette of the group?
Only in terms of age, since I’m older than the rest of the cast, but they see me as the naughty one [laughs].

What’s your day like?
I used to smoke and drink, but around the time I hit 50, I thought thought, 'This is crazy.' Suddenly, more opportunities came around—really big musicals, like Priscilla and The Producers. I don’t go to the gym, but I come to the theater three hours before each performance and work out here. I bring my yoga mat and do my vocal exercises. I’ve done the show for nearly six years, and I spent the first three in pain, but now I’ve worked out a program.

How do you unwind?
I'm a television junkie. I saw the first episode of GCB, which had me laughing out loud. And I’m a Downton Abbey addict like everyone else—it’s The Bold and the Beautiful with corsets. I love trash!

This might put your most shudder-inducing teen gig to shame, cheris. Actress Freida Pinto, dolled up in a high-low melange of Chanel and Alternative Apparel, graces NYLON's April cover, out on newsstands March 27. In the mag, she discusses her Mumbai upbringing, her next flick set in the 1890s, called Trishna...and a particularly unsavory gig from her formative years. “I was entertaining at kiddy [sic] parties, but I was always trying to run away from dressing up. I didn’t want to get in a dirty costume! You sweat in it!” Pinto told NYLON. Ick! Chic just gained newfound respect for all those clowns, Sesame Street characters, et al. we ran away from at childhood birthday parties. (Or in Times Square on a regular basis nowadays.) Movin' on up, Freida!

Florence Welch + the Kiehl's Machine? Flo, along with Mark Ruffalo, Rosario Dawson, and Spike Lee, designed Earth-inspired limited edition labels on Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque to celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd. The earth (and face!) friendly company has also donated $100,000 to Recycle Across America, which will be used to create 150,000 standardized recycling labels for select K-12 schools throughout the U.S. Since 2009, Kiehl's has collected a whopping 500,000 empty Kiehl's bottles from their shoppers and recycled them on their behalf, rewarding them with free products. Well done, guys!

We hope Kate Hudson doesn't wrinkle her dress in the new ad campaign for Ann Taylor, photographed by Tom Munro. According to Elle, this is the first time she's been seen in a campaign since a certain Tommy Hilfiger moment in the nineties. (Does anybody recall this?) Why now? She tells Elle that she has a little time off, and it was "one of those things when they ask and the time is right." There we have it! Hudson follows Ann Taylor alums Demi Moore, Katie Holmes, and Naomi Watts.

Too hot in Arizona! Too hot in Arizona!

Oh, America! CocoPerez reports that an Arizona grocery store has censored Jessica Simpson's naked and pregnant Elle cover with a piece of cardboard (gasp!). (The first thing we'd do is remove it to see what the fuss is about.) Apparently, the cover is just too haute for the Grand Canyon state. Seth and Amy ask: Really?!
