Upper East Siders: Consider Yourselves Fed

The uptown dining scene has only been marginally improved by The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges. Where to go for a quick, easy meal on a weeknight (besides see-and-be-seen spots like Sant Ambroeus and Le Bilboquet)? Second Avenue, for starters. Quit complaining. San Matteo, a new slice of the storefrontage on Second Avenue at 90th Street, specializes in the sort of authentic Neapolitan pies that were previously found only downtown. The no-frills spot is filled out with a long bar, a few tables, and a brick oven. No liquor license yet, but enough authentic Italian fare at fair prices to keep you satisfied. Of course, you can always Bring Your Own Brunello. THE DETAILS: San Matteo Pizza and Espresso Bar, 1739 Second Avenue, (212) 426-6943.

"...You can be pretentious over the top, or you can be interested and entertained in a way that improves your quality of life."---Adam Rapoport, new Bon Ap EIC, on the attitudes commonly used to tackle one's subject by both food and fashion editors. Julia Moskin's "In the Kitchen With" piece in the Times is worth a read. (His mom literally wrote the book on pasta salad!)

Chic lauded Prabal Gurung for his spot-on Marc Jacobs costume at The Standard's Halloween party, but what did Marc think? Turns out, he didn't get a chance to see it---in person, anyway. "It was daunting to be Mr. Jacobs, but I thought I’d give it a shot," Gurung told us last night at the Phoenix House Fashion Awards. "I saw Lorenzo [Martone], but I didn’t want to see Marc. I thought, what if he hates it? I’d be horrified. So I ran away!" Don't worry, love. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...

Babes in Stella

Stella McCartney, currently in London awaiting the arrival of her fourth child (due in just a couple of weeks!), has one less thing to worry about when baby McCartney is born: her new children's line launched today, so the little one will have no shartage of adorable ensembles. Chic stopped by the Meatpacking district store this morning (where a colorful balloon artist was making balloon hats for pint-sized shoppers) to check out the wares, which are just as ridiculously cute as you could imagine. Tiny peacoat? Check. Cowboy pajamas? Check. Yellow rain boots? ...you get the idea. Check out the video for a preview!
