Brunello Cucinelli is truly a renaissance man, and yesterday he added yet another feather to his cashmere cap. The University of Perugia awarded Cucinelli an honorary degree in philosophy and human ethics during the commencement Thursday morning. The Umbrian entrepreneur has created a revolutionary business dimension in the village of Solomeo, and he humbly took to the podium, explaining, “Today, this meeting between a businessman and the University of Perugia, one of the oldest and most prestigious of its kind, flatters me extraordinarily. I firmly believe that the universities have always been, and will always be the salt of the earth.” Congratulations, graduates!

Did you read The Daily am New York yesterday? We took to the streets with $1,000 to see how much diamond that would buy us on Fifth and Madison Avenues. A thousand bucks also won’t get us too far with the Thakoon for Tasaki collab, but no matter; we’re willing to patiently save up for this marvelous 18K yellow gold and pearl ring. THE DETAILS: colette, $3,452

Prabal Gurung has proven himself a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world, but he's not finished yet. The designer has curated an exhibition by London-based artist Cary Kwok, which opens at the Flag Art Foundation in Chelsea on November 18. “I admire Kwok’s work,” Gurung wrote on his blog, “because it is precise and meticulous yet there is this tongue-in-cheek humor to it at the same time. From far away the works are fascinating but up close they are even more powerful.” Kwok's blue ballpoint pen drawings include images of suggestive male nudes, celebrity portraits, and more, and will be on view through January 29, 2011.

If you were craving a Pabst Blue Ribbon and a slice of Americana Thursday evening, Drive in Studios was the place to be. Tommy Hilfiger presented the new TOMMY Spring 2011 collection as guests soaked in the uber-relaxed vibe over beer and pretzels. Models lounged in a powder blue VW Beetle, while pretty ikat, nautical stripes and pops of neon illuminated the room. The Tommy Hilfiger store at 375 Bleecker Street has officially been converted to a TOMMY boutique, catering to young things. With the weekend officially upon us, we'll take that PBR now, please.

When Aliona Doletskaya suddenly left Vogue Russia at the end of July, she surprised both the global fashion world and Jonathan Newhouse. As for her future plans? She's still mum, though Chic suspects there will be an announcement soon (keep checking in on your dear Daily!). Keeping her busy until then, though, there's always The New York Times: Doletskaya's bylined on a piece that ran on Monday called Moscow: The Sprit of More. An excerpt: "What does luxury mean today in Moscow? First of all, it is freedom to choose exactly what one wants. It is by no means limited to buying the latest collection piece from Bottega Veneta or jewelry by Chopard or Cartier. The most important element of luxury in Russia is the spirit of “more”....The economic crisis made people more conscious of their luxury spending. But it did not distort the belief of wealthy Russians that if you are going to spend money on anything, spend it on the best."
