The macaroon man of the moment, David Holder, is the president of the world's most famous (and beloved) macaroon and chocolatier store, Maison Laduree. The French brand, founded in 1862, opened its first U.S. store today on Madison Ave at 70th (a skip away from the Frick). Bon appetit!
Tell us about your new digs!
It's a little bit of a shop teaser. We have the best of Laduree--all the fragrances of macaroons that we have in Paris. Then we have all the ice cream and chocolates, the shopping bags, the candles, the tea. The second step will be to find a location in the Meatpacking district and Soho for the salon de tea. Maybe after that we'll add a Bar Laduree [like the Champs-Elysees in Paris] in the Meatpacking District.
Were you the official suppliers for the macaroons in Marie Antoinette?
Of course! Sofia Coppolla came to us, and we love her, so it was a fine partnership. She wanted to have Laduree products all over the movie. Everyday we baked boxes and boxes of macaroons. When they think Laduree, they think Marie Antoinette in the movie--like a princess or someone in 18th century France. This has to be the feeling of Laduree. It's what we call "le reve Laduree" or the dream of Laduree.
How many macaroons do you eat daily?
For more than 20 years now, I have 6 macaroons each day. It's a drug. I need them.
Any weight gain?
Not a pound!
What's your funniest macaroon moment?
When I made the orange blossom, it was a big success. I had to sign a contract with the Prince of Kuwait, who is one of my partners. His mother was a big fan of the orange macaroons, which were supposed to be temporary, until he said, "You have to promise that this macaroon will last forever or else my mother will be so sad!" Now, it's in the permanent collection.

Karl Lagerfeld is always so sound-bite-licious, and for that we're forever grateful. In this behind the scenes vid for his Macy's collection (finally coming tomorrow!), the Kaiser explains his inspiration for the line, disses a color, and doesn't seem to have any idea how large the collection is. Karl revealed, "I sketch. They made the choice. I don't know the numbers." Details shmetails. (For the record: the capsule collection has 45 pieces.)

It's not even September, but we're already starting to get a glimpse of the October covers! Angelina Jolie graces the cover of Vanity Fair, and tells contributing editor Rich Cohen that despite the rumors, she's not gonna marry Brad, she's not pregnant, and she's not adopting. Got that? The issue goes on sale on Thursday in New York and L.A., and nationally and on the iPad on September 6th.

Chic ran into DJ and girl-about-town, Becka Diamond, last night as she feted Charlotte Ronson for Sephora, hitting stores September 15th. On the rooftop of downtown's haute spot, Hotel Chantelle, Ann Dexter Jones, Dani Stahl, Shoshanna Gruss, Charlotte Ronson and more mingled in a warm post-Irene night while sitting for a three-course meal, complete with floating cupcake trays and berry shortcake. Chic spotted Becka by the bar, avec a bad-ass harness atop her black button down, chatting it up with close-knit posse.
What were you up to during Hurricane Irene?
I just hibernated with some cute boys, movies, granola bars, and Prosecco. I was prepared. I’ve been through a few hurricanes before; I’m from Massachusetts, so I lived through Hurricane Bob in 1996. I also tend to overprepare but it’s good.
Did you feel the earthquake last week?
No, I was robbed! I was robbed of the earthquake. I'm dating this boy, and I was at his record shop. Seems exciting!
What’s in your medicine cabinet?
I love Nars and I love MAC and Make Up Forever. My favorite eyeliner is the Make Up Forever liquid eyeliner. I have to have an SPF moisturizer. I love the MAC oil cleanser. I love La Mer. What else is in their? Fake eyelashes, lots of black eyeshadow, lip gloss. I’m obsessive about lip gloss! Not a lot of practical stuff. Just the SPF and the cleanser, the rest is a party!
Have you ever had a beauty makeover at a department store?
When I was younger, my friend worked at the MAC counter and every so often they would have to bring someone in for their training. He would always put the craziest looks on me. I would walk out of there looking like somebody’s doll gone bad.
What’s been your biggest beauty mishap?
The time I put fake eyelashes on, and didn’t take them off before I went to bed. My eyes were glued shut! Another time was when somebody put extensions in my hair. My hair is really fine, and this glue was supposed to come out right away. The glue ripped half my hair out. I was like, 'Thanks guys, now I’m bald!'

This just in! Exclusive dish about more (deep breath) Fashion's Night Out appearances. This one, at Realm Soho, is worth noting (and cramming into your calendar for Sept. 8th) as fashion's latest bloggettes Leandra Medine of Manrepeller, Susie Lau of Susie Bubble, Chelsea Leyland, and Lissy Trullie make an appearance at the store from 6-11 p.m. Last year, Blake Lively made a PA while Alexandra Richards mixed tunes in the background. Owner Randi Jacobson says of this year's line-up, "We are thrilled to have such great girls join Realm for FNO this year - such an exciting mix of modern style icons for us all!" The girls will help shoppers assemble chic ensembles throughout the evening from designers like Thierry Mugler and Jean Claude Jitrois. Now, is there some way we can work on getting a clone of ourselves for the night?
