Elle Macpherson On Her New Skivvies, Old Nickname, And More

We recently caught up with Elle Macpherson as she toasted her newest skivvies endeavor, The Body Elle Macpherson for JCPenney, at the retailer’s posh Soho digs. The supermod dished on the latest line of underpinnings, which hit stores on April 10, plus her own bedtime attire…and how she feels these days about (still!) being dubbed “The Body”…

How did your collab with JCPenney come about?

We wanted to create a new extension of the Elle Macpherson Intimates brand, for the masses, and created The Body. JCPenney was an ideal partner, as they were one of the largest U.S. retailers and had a strong dialog with the American woman.

What's your biggest pet peeve about ill-fitting bras?
That they don’t shape the body properly. A great bra and knickers should shape your body under clothes and change your mood and body language—for the better.

Do you ever get tired of being called 'The Body'?
Right now, no. But ask me again in another decade.

What's the best part about bringing your knack for intimates to JCPenney?
Helping women find the right bras and knickers to suit their taste and lifestyle. It sounds cliché, but it’s true. I’m a woman who designs for women, and the most gratifying part of my job is designing something another woman loves and makes a part of her lifestyle.

Sleeping in a bra: do or don't?
I personally don’t. What’s nicer than crisp sheets and a comfy T shirt in bed?!

Facing 'The Face': Episode 6 Recap

Another new episode of The Face airs tonight on Oxygen and our Pratt intern Samantha Borek gets us up to speed on what went down last week.

We were a little torn last week while watching The Face. While we were happy to see another member of Team Lydia [Hearst] go, we didn’t get to start the episode off with Naomi Campbell giving us the drama and that was the biggest disappointment of all. Anne V made up for it, though, when she laid into Lydia for not being a good mentor. Lydia assured us that she had a strategy. What strategy? Where? Now would be a good time to employ it.

The campaign this week was fashion star studded with Joe Zee and RuPaul joinng the show for the episode. Zee commissioned the girls for a three-part androgynous editorial to be featured on ELLE’s website—with their mentors starring as the leading ladies! The winner of The Face also gets an exclusive story in the mag. RuPaul lent a hand to help the girls transform for the shoot. Team Lydia went for the love triangle approach finally ending in Amanda and Ray’s love affair. We loved Ray’s pouty Joe Calderone look, but RuPaul and Lydia thought she was weak against Amanda’s Johnny Cash bad boy. Luckily for Ray, Zee couldn’t have disagreed more. Ray certainly wasn’t looking “like a lady” to him. We hoped it would be enough to pull team Lydia out of their losing streak, but the connection (or lack thereof) between all three models just wasn’t doing anything for Zee. Anne V wanted to exude femme fatale in a bar scene surrounded by adoring suitors. Khadisha was strong in rehearsal, and even helped coach her teammates (play nice, Sharon!), but when the cameras started clicking she fell flat. Tiana had to break out of her California pixie style, and Sharon nailed her tough guy look. It wasn’t enough, though, because Anne V stole the show, and that was a big campaign faux-pas.

More dish on The Face after the jump...

Out magazine has named their 8th annual Power 50 list and Ellen DeGeneres came out on top, but a few fashion names made the cut once again. Jenna Lyons, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, and Michael Kors are listed this year joining Neil Patrick Harris, Tim Cook, and even TMZ's Harvey Levin in their ranking of the most influential LGBT voices in American culture. Interesting to note that Kors didn't make the list last year, but made an impressive jump to number twelve on this year's list, which might have had a little something to do with his debut on the Forbes billionaires list this year. Well done!

Now that Joe Zee's departure from ELLE is official, the rumor mill is starting to flow about who will replace him as creative director. Page Six reports today that they've heard that Harper's Bazaar's Laura Brown and Vanity Fair's Michael Carl are in the ring for the job. Interesting choices since both have major front row experience and are certainly on par with Zee when it comes to oozing with charisma. Others are murmuring that Alex Gonzalez, the artistic director of Marie Claire and executive artistic director of Town & Country, is the obvious choice. Stay tuned.
