Sergio Says! Musings From Cosmo (and Beyond...)

Sergio avec Vanessa Paradis! Sergio avec Vanessa Paradis!

Childhood dreams came true for our Cosmo pal Sergio Kletnoy this week: the assistant to Joanna Coles (and oh so much more!) has photographic evidence, at long last, of his encounter with a bewitching French superstar. It's only a matter of time before this shot gets enlarged and ornately framed, right, Serge?

"My love affair with Vanessa Paradis began in 1987. So everything that happened this week paled in comparison to my 10-year old self finally getting a photo with my first crush ever! I remember that moment like it was yesterday. I was sitting on my grandma’s couch in the former U.S.S.R., watching a Saturday morning music show, when an adorable young French girl with a baby voice by the name of Vanessa Paradis sang to me from inside the tube. It was a song called “Joe Le Taxi” and I couldn’t understand a word. The language barrier didn’t matter: I was madly in love.

I've followed Vanessa’s career ever since. From her French films (Girl On The Bridge being a favorite), to her albums (1992’s self-titled album—her only English effort, produced by Lenny Kravitz—is a masterpiece), to the fashion world’s (and my) obsession with her face, eyes, gap in her teeth, and incredible style. I was a bonafide fan. Hello!!! That Coco Chanel ad, with Vanessa inside a birdcage, is pure art!

I first met Paradis in the winter of 2010, when Marie Claire shot her for its April issue. There was a snowstorm looming over NYC, and when I walked onto the set I heard Brigitte Bardot’s music playing in the background. I was mesmerized when I saw her from the corner of my eye; I couldn’t speak. During the break, Marie Claire’s fashion director, Nina Garcia, brought Vanessa over and introduced us. Paradis extended her hand and said, “I saw you looking when you walked in, you look familiar, have we met before?” I mumbled, “Only in my dreams”. I must have freaked her out, but she smiled and was super sweet nevertheless. I was so nervous that I didn’t even ask for a photo. A few minutes later she went back to the shoot, and I waved as I was leaving. I’m sure she didn’t even notice, but that didn’t matter. I was as happy as a little girl!

Fast forward to the Cinema Society and Women's Health premiere for John Turturro’s hilarious comedy Fading Gigolo, which stars Woody Allen, Sofia Vergara, Turturro, Sharon Stone, Liev Schreiber and Vanessa. Paradis sat a few rows behind me; her hair was short and she looked more stunning than ever before. The film was sharp and witty. The brilliant cast meshed so well together, and Vanessa was delightful in her first English role. As if I wasn’t nervous enough, Vanessa and I arrived at the same exact time to the afterparty at Bar Nana. I made my way through the crowd of models, socialites, actors, and fashion designers, and I saw her posse take the corner booth. I waited a few minutes, walked over and introduced myself. She was super sweet and guarded. She even remembered the Marie Claire shoot where we first met. Everything about our conversation now seems like a blur, I just remember seeing stars and being super nervous. When I asked for a photo, she happily obliged. A few moments later we were once again worlds apart. But that photo of us will forever live in on my iPhone and the web-o-sphere. Nothing else mattered that evening. A few minutes later I slipped out of the party, completely exhilarated and sweating like a wh*re in church. Yes, dreams do come true…

Teresa Moore Fêtes Her Foodie Blog, TeresaTastes

What do you get when you mix a runway mod, a serious foodie devotion, and a touch of fashion? The blog TeresaTastes, written by Teresa Moore, a mod who also happens to be a serious gourmand. Last night, The Daily fêted the unveiling of her gourmet site at chic LES spot Beauty & Essex. Over grilled cheese dumplings and Belvedere's latest Mango Passion cocktails, Moore filled us in on her cuisine preferences and her go-to chefs. Forget any misconceptions you’ve heard about models and food: this one really knows her way around New York’s restaurant scene.

How did you first get into cooking?
My parents are very international: my mom is Italian and my dad is American, but he lived in Japan. So my parents were always very eclectic and they were also hippies and they were into healthy food. I always had such a span of different foods. Then when I moved to New York, the restaurant culture here is so fascinating and it’s my favorite thing to do with my spare time.

When did you decide to start the blog?
I’ve had a blog for the past four years that was very basic, with awesome pictures of food. I have a huge following on FoodSpotting and I’m in the top 10 food bloggers on Tumblr. And that grew so much, so I decided to make a blog about it.

What kind of content can we expect from TeresaTastes?
Then I want to have fun and loop in social media, asking my followers questions like 'Where is the best salad in New York?' and having people tweet in their opinion. I don’t think you should be sitting at home on a juice diet having a miserable life. I want to offer ideas for people to go out, have fun, while still staying healthy. That’s what this blog is about!

Who’s your favorite chef?
Nobuyuki Matsuhisa. I think the fact that he innovated Japanese cuisine with the infusion of Peruvian flavors 20 years ago was amazing. There’s no one that has superseded his genius. The food is so clean, so delicious and his restaurants are packed every night of the week.

What is your go-to recipe?
I steal every Jamie Oliver recipe, because they’re so tasty and he usually makes everything in one dish, so there’s very little cleanup. I do this salmon dish with an anchovy rosemary pesto, and it’s so delicious. I serve it for dinner with sautéed asparagus.

Now let’s talk taste! Do you prefer sweet or savory?
Savory, 100 percent!

Which do you like more: finger food or chopsticks?
Oh! I really like Asian and Japanese food, so it might be chopsticks. But I do love the sensuality of eating with my fingers, especially at an Ethiopian restaurant.

Are you a fruit or vegetable girl?
I mean, I think I'm fifty-fifty.

And finally, can we usually find you eating out or staying in?
Eating out, always!

It's Day 11 of the Royals' big vacay and Prince George got the day off, but Kate Middleton and Prince William were still out and about making the rounds in Australia. Middleton wore a Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress and Stuart Weitzman wedges as she met little ones dressed as princesses themselves. The couple was hard at work touring the Blue Mountain suburb of Winmalee. Just another day at the office.
