Sergio Says! Weekly Musings from Marie Claire (and Beyond...)
Ready for another jampacked jaunt around town with Sergio Kletnoy, the fiercest assistant to ever set foot in Hearst Tower? The Daily's new "The Assistant Files" kicked off with Kletnoy, and each week we're following his escapades as Marie Claire EIC Joanna Coles' gatekeeper. And don't forget to peruse the gallery of Sergio's shots from the last madcap seven days!
Saturday
Unlike the cast of New York Housewives, who will attend the opening of a tuna can, getting on my weekend schedule is damn near impossible. Not that I’m a snob, I’m just very selective about how I spend my days off. (So if you’ve ever spent time with me on a weekend, congratulations. Your certificate is in the mail.) Saturday began with a birthday brunch for Marie Claire’s killer accessories editor, Taylor Tomasi-Hill, at Wilfie & Nell in the West Village. Here’s the thing about Taylor: there’s always a gang of street style bloggers tracking her every move. So I knew I needed to look super cool. I wore my favorite black-and-neon orange Y-3 high tops, a Karl Who? t-shirt, and a brand new pair of Dior shades. Only someone as über-fabulous as Taylor could show up an hour and a half late to her own party. Taylor was wearing Comme des Garcons MC Hammer pants, a vintage Christy Turlington print t-shirt and a Fenton vintage sequined jacket. By the time she showed up, I was half in the bag thanks to six Bloody Mary’s, my drink of choice. Later that evening, I headed off to Radio City for a Janet Jackson concert. Cut to me 30 minutes later doing “Rhythm Nation” choreography (5-4-3-2-1) and singing every word to every song with my friends.
Sunday
For Sunday’s brunch I met up with my mom, some friends and a couple of screaming babies -- FYI, babies love me. I’m the “baby whisperer.” A baby-filled brunch was followed by some much-needed shopping at Barneys, because, let’s face it, nothing feeds the soul like some overpriced jeans.
Monday, 12 p.m.
My boss Joanna Coles and I filmed the next installment of an exclusive digital series we’ve been doing for Marie Claire. If you haven’t seen it, you’ve got to! They’re hilarious and give you a good sense of how we work together. Can’t divulge what our video is about, but you can see a photo from the shoot in the gallery.
Tuesday, 5:30 p.m.
I had an insane day of finalizing two trips for my boss, finding her après-ski boots, ordering catering for a last minute dinner party, submitting two months of expenses, editing a video for MarieClaire.com and not having any time for lunch. After all of that, I was able to finally get to four days’ worth of mail, whereupon I found an advance copy of – brace yourself! - the new album from Stevie Nicks called “In Your Dreams”. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Stevie and am now officially obsessed with the new material. Stevie, call me! Let’s do a video for my blog. I got my gypsy costume ready to go. The album won’t be out until May but in the meantime you can buy the first single, “Secret Love,” on iTunes.
Wednesday, 3:30 p.m.
It is my mission in life to meet the entire cast of Absolutely Fabulous. A few months back, Joanna made my year when she invited Patsy Stone, aka Joanna Lumley, to the office for an informal breakfast with the staff. (Here’s my interview with Patsy.) With that in mind, you can understand why I literally gasped today when Joanna (Coles, my boss) rolled into the offices with actor Richard E. Grant, who you may recognize from his illustrious roles in The Age of Innocence, Gosford Park, Prêt-à-Porter and Filth and Wisdom (hi, Madonna). But to me, he’ll always be “Dream Justin,” Edina’s dream husband on the “Hospital” episode of AbFab. Never mind his role in one of my all-time favorite films, Spice World—I’ll never forgive the Academy for not giving him the Oscar he so justly deserved for that one.
Thursday, 4:30 p.m.
June Ambrose, celebrity stylist extraordinaire, was in the office today for a meeting. June is truly a trendsetter. And in a world where image is everything, it’s really no wonder that she is the right hand to some of the biggest fashion icons in the biz – Diddy, Jay-Z, Mary J, Mariah, Missy, Will Smith and Alicia Keys. Let’s get to what you really want to know: she came in wearing the most amazing Marc Jacobs coat with suede YSL pumps and a Hermes Birkin bag (check it out here!). Apparently June owns six Birkins. WINNING!
