Where There's Smoke...
Sonia Rykiel's runway show was governed by cheery models walking through a cloud of pink smoke. At the first possible occasion--backstage with the brand's designer and president Nathalie Rykiel--we had to find out why.
Was that dry ice?
Well, when you do a show, things come together. All the colors we used were so faded, like the light grey and pink, so I wanted something soft. The space was so huge—last season, we did a show in the boutique—so we needed something to fill it. Smoking just felt right!
What else is new?
I just wrote a book [Tu seras une femme, ma fille, which launched in France this January], I've just done a TV show with my team. I'm doing all sorts of things on the side, my dear. Like a woman does!
Would you like to be an international television star?
Maybe. I have to see who is inviting me. Why not?
