Upper East Siders: Consider Yourselves Fed
The uptown dining scene has only been marginally improved by The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges. Where to go for a quick, easy meal on a weeknight (besides see-and-be-seen spots like Sant Ambroeus and Le Bilboquet)? Second Avenue, for starters. Quit complaining. San Matteo, a new slice of the storefrontage on Second Avenue at 90th Street, specializes in the sort of authentic Neapolitan pies that were previously found only downtown. The no-frills spot is filled out with a long bar, a few tables, and a brick oven. No liquor license yet, but enough authentic Italian fare at fair prices to keep you satisfied. Of course, you can always Bring Your Own Brunello. THE DETAILS: San Matteo Pizza and Espresso Bar, 1739 Second Avenue, (212) 426-6943.
