Uniqlo Rocks Fifth Avenue
The future is here! Uniqlo officially opened the doors to its first global flagship store on 5th Avenue this afternoon with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Mayor Bloomberg. But the brand kicked things off with a party last night that brought out just about one or two billion New Yorkers who wanted a first look at the largest store in Uniqlo history. And who doesn't want to see what a $9.99 jean really looks like? Guests included Uniqlo's founder and president Tadashi Yanai, USA CEO Shin Odake, Susan Sarandon, Nicola Formichetti, John Varvatos, Jeffrey Costello, Robert Tagliapietra, Nadine Johnson, Patricia Field, Phillip Bloch, Robert Verdi, Thom Filicia, Kate Lanphear, Andrew and Andrew, Ben Wymer, Lance Lin, and J Errico, with performances by Santogold and Sharon Jones. What's the big deal about the store? Take in these stats:
Total size: 89,000 total square feet
Sales floor size: 48,800 square feet
Fitting rooms: 100
Cash wraps: 50
Employees: 600
LCD screens: 100+
Display mannequins: 400
AND...LET'S DO IT ALL AGAIN! Uniqlo's next mammoth location, on 34th Street, opens Friday, October 21st. Our heads are spinning!
