(NEW YORK) "I have horrible allergies!" confessed Uma Thurman, entering the Plaza Hotel last night for the Turnaround for Children’s Inaugural Benefit dinner. “I need a napkin every time I take two steps!” The statuesque Oscar nom was there to support a fairly new organization that aims to transform the nation’s most troubled public schools. “Cristina Greeven Cuomo is a great friend of mine,” said the actress. “So she gave me a call and this instantly seemed like a great cause. And it’s very important for an organization like that to have a first great event. I’m sure being at The Plaza helps!”
Thurman was the most recognizable woman at the formal dinner, but as always, Mayor Bloomberg was the most powerful. He stopped by to support New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein while the likes of Emily Mortimer, Tory Burch, Fern Mallis, Chris Cuomo, and Barbara Bush admirably applauded the pair. And how did honoree Klein spend his day preceding the black tie? “Um, it was pretty routine,” he smiled. “I had to testify in front of the U.S. Senate!”
