Lulu Frost's Lisa Salzer takes a moment in her new column, Transformations, to reflect on how a little trash turned her life into a treasure.

"Today's Transformations takes a turn to the reflective. The arrival of 2011 it's a chance to meditate on what we are thankful for.  I'd like to share an ongoing transformation that originally launched Lulu Frost, and in turn, is quite special to me.  As you may know, in 2005 I has the good fortune to happen upon hundreds of discarded bronze door numbers from the famed Plaza (ignore what you may have heard in recent years and instead let's take a moment of silence for this historic style icon).  A few tweaks and some vintage chains later, I created the Plaza Number collection, which helped land Lulu Frost in several prime retailers and jump-started all I am thankful for today with my business.  Lesson learned: that which is discarded is not always worthless. One hotel's trash is another woman's treasure!  The metamorphosis from crusty bronze numbers to treasured jewelry didn't stop there, as the numbers are now taking on a new identity as delicate and personal pieces of fine jewelry.  Enter CODE, our new fine jewelry collection in 14k or 18k with diamonds, comprised of stud earrings, rings and necklaces that can be customized and combined.

Over the years of selling Plaza numbers world-wide, I've realized how strongly people attach meaning and importance to numbers.  I've heard hundreds of stories behind why people love certain numbers, from the mundane to the creative. The award for most interesting choice of personal numbers, however, has to go to my friend Gillian Schwartz of the new branding agency Schwartz & Sons. Not only is she responsible for the creative genius behind the new Lulu Frost and CODE websites, but she's a dedicated CODE wearer.  Gillian has decided to wear not one, but ten rings at a time on her pretty hand by proudly displaying her cell phone digits in a fashionably stacked form. Talk about a creative way to give him your number!

Please visit us at lulufrost.code and maybe you too can find meaningful inspiration---or just a brilliant way to snag a hot date. With love, Lisa."
