Shame on Chic! We've been reading about Seersucker for months, but it wasn't until Saturday soir that we finally made it to Carroll Gardens to enjoy this splendid joint, which comes courtesy of Kerry Diamond (longtime editorial type, now running PR at Coach) and chef/co-owner Robert Newton. The latter, a native of Arkansas, knows his Southern food, but this is not the usual greasefest that one has come to expect. In fact, Chic's preferred menu item might be the roasted cauliflower, served atop northern beans, local spelt, and braised red cabbage. It's so healthy it practically requires a first course of shaved Edward & Sons country ham atop a buttermilk biscuit. And a side skillet of macaroni & cheese. And maybe a root beer float for dessert. Oh! Who's counting calories these days, anyway. Next Saturday, Manhattanites, make it a destination and go for brunch and Bird-shopping. And!
