Spring 2011 Ads: Ryan McGinley Snaps Club Monaco
Ryan McGinley, known as the youngest photographer to win a spot inside the Whitney Museum, took up his lens at Club Monaco for the brand's candid spring 2011 ad campaign. The 33-year-old shutterbug came on board following in the steps of fashion photogs Peter Lindbergh, Mario Testino, Richard Avedon, and Patrick Demarchelier, who have all teamed up with the brand. Fall 2010's campaign, shot by Victor Demarchelier, brought us Black Swan virtuoso (and Natalie Portman's husband-to-be) Benjamin Millepied. But McGinley had a different story in mind for spring. The famed photographer and Club Monaco showcased "the culture club" posing freely in a classic boardwalk photo booth setup. The eclectic pop-cult squad consisted of Lou Doillon, Lauren Hutton, and Annie Lennox's daughter Tali Lennox along with Lexie and Rachel Smith, filmmaker Brandee Brown, artist Mitch Ferrin, musiciasn Domino Kirke and Matthew Hutchinson, The Virgins' Donald Cummings, actresses Jemima Kirke and Shuya Chang, surfer Johny Knapp, Lexie and Rachel Smith, skateboarder Peter Giang, fellow photographers Jade Berreau and Rachel Chandler, and stylist Tom Guinness. Club Monaco asked their stylish cast what they were coveting on set. Hutton wanted to snatch up the navy trench she was photographed in while Lou went gaga for the loose trousers and basics. How about Tali? She was eyeing the lacy white frock Lou modeled. For your own must-haves, check out the Club Monaco Lookbook for the complete spring 2011 collection.
