Cosmo's Sergio Kletnoy may have set a new record in the Bloody Mary quantity department this week; all the better for a shopping spree of the shoe and shelter-spruce-up variety, obvi. Also on the docket? Scrolling through Kylie Minogue's iPhone photos, schmoozing with SJP and scads of other badass ladies lunching, and even an outing to a (gasp!) chain resto. Plus, of course, all the shots to illustrate that turn of events...
Having spent the previous day in bed battling a wicked case of sniffles, I was determined to get outside for some rays of sun, human contact and a cocktail (or two). I met up with my friends Courtney and Melissa for brunch—because nothing helps numb the misery of a nasty cold quite like a Bloody Mary. Trust me, It’s a remedy…for moi, at least. We then headed to The NoMad, which has four different kinds of Bloody’s on the menu: the Traditional, the Sherry (Amontillado sherry, tomato, beets and hot peppers), the Michelada (Piment D’espelette, orange, lime and lager), and my fave, the Caesar (tomato, shellfish, lemon and horseradish). I was in paradise, and after eight of them (two of each), my sinuses were as clear as Madonna’s arteries. Afterwards, I stumbled over to A Bathing Ape and spent $340 on a new pair of high tops, and then, barely sober, dropped a small fortune on lord-knows-what at Bed Bath & Beyond. I’m still trying to figure out what a mandoline is. (If you know how to use it, hit me up on Twitter.)
BIG day for The Boss! JoCo closed down Michael’s (if you don’t know what it is, you probably shouldn’t be reading this column) for her inaugural "Cosmo 100" luncheon. No big deal, just a few of JoCo’s closest friends, some of whom just happen to be SJP, DVF, Cathie Black, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Sally Hershberger, Katie Lee, Nicole Miller, Rebecca Minkoff, Lauren Bush Lauren, Pat Cleveland, Petra Nemcova, Meryl Poster, Deborah Roberts, Peggy Siegal, Ali Wentworth, Naomi Wolff, Jessica Seinfeld, and Carol Alt. Of course there was a zoo of paparazzi outside, and I had to save Sarah Jessica (we’re on a first-and-middle-name basis) from 500 flashbulbs. Once we were safely inside, I asked her if she was going to the Madonna concert that night—she’s also a big fan. But SJP’s night was booked. Being a mommy takes priority over even the best performer in the world shaking her perfect ass…which is exactly what happened at MSG that night. I was so close to Her Madgesty that, if I’d wanted to (and trust me I did, but not enough to be thrown out by her army of security), I could have touched her Loubs. Yep, front row, in the golden triangle pit. Oh, and did I mention Lola was next to me for the entire two hours dancing her ass off? Yup, just another night in SK’s world.
My home away from home, aka Marie Claire, has its December issue out this week. Be sure to pick it up at a newsstand because I’ve got a few bylines inside, including my picks for the month’s must-have albums in MC@Play. There's also an interview with the uber-talented Paloma Faith; I’ve been obsessed with her for the past few years. And if you flip to the last page, I’ve got an interview with one of the biggest pop icons in the world, my love, Kylie Minogue. I spent an hour chatting with Ms. Minogue in her dressing room on the set of Project Runway All Stars a few months back. Turns out we’re both huge Madonna fans, we love staying in and watching classic movies on our couches, and we’re both obsessed with taking photos of ourselves. She showed me about 1,000 photos she’d taken on her iPhone. That’s right: personal, private snapshots. Don’t hate...Congratulate.
Last week, thanks to me, Cosmo premiered the debut music video for “Kill, F*ck, Marry” by the South African-born Nikki Williams. Within a week, the video reached 550K views and garnered huge buzz in the music biz. When Nikki’s publicist, Laura Swanson (an old friend of mine at Island Def Jam) called me in to hear this completely unknown stunner, I had no idea how obsessed I’d become with this tear-jerker (which, by the way, was written by Sia). If you took the best of Adele, P!nk and Rihanna, you’d get Nikki Williams (she’s that good), and trust me, you’ll be hearing a lot from her. Later that evening, to celebrate Nikki’s success, I took my friends Winnie and Danielle to the best Italian spot in the city: California Pizza Kitchen. (Those in the know call it CPK). Batali’s got nothin’ on their five-cheese thin-crust. I spare no expense on my friends; they only deserve the best that NYC chain-restaurants have to offer!
Not in the mood. If the phone rings, you’re getting my voicemail. Deal with it.
Obsessed: “We Got The World” by Icona Pop; “Kill F*ck Marry” by Nikki Williams; “Ice” by Kelly Rowland and Lil’ Wayne; “Magnets” by WAYLAYERS; “Die Young (Deconstructed)" by Ke$ha; “If You Love Me” by BenZel & Jessie Ware; and finally “Closer” by Tegan and Sara. Have a great weekend and catch me on Twitter @SergioKletnoy until next week.
