Last week, the Serge went blond(ie), put on his MC hat, and kicked it with the big 'D'. No bigs...
Sergio’s High Holy Day. Everything else that happened this week pales in comparison to what went down today. Let me preface by saying it is HUGE, and way bigger than anything that’s ever happened in your life (unless you’re Kurt Loder). A little band called Blondie (perhaps you’ve heard of them?)—40 million albums sold, four number one singles, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame—performed a concert for YouTube Presents at the Google offices in the Flatiron. And guess who was asked to introduce the band and moderate a Q&A? Yours truly, bitches! Even getting into the Google offices requires CIA-level security clearance, so imagine what it takes to be the dude to not only get inside but also share the stage with one of the most influential bands of our time? Yeah, I’m still waiting for someone to pinch me and tell me it was all a dream. But no, it was real. VERY REAL! Five minutes before I was to take the stage and address the 250 insane Blondie fans that had packed into the Google theater, I started to panic, sweat profusely, and scan the room for the nearest exits. This was some high-level sh*t. But when the clock struck 4 o'clock, it was go time. Suddenly I was on fire. Remember what it was like when I met Madonna? This was a close second. After I introduced the band, they took the stage and Debbie gave me a big wet kiss on the cheek. I can’t remember exactly what happened afterward, but I think they performed. After the show and the Q&A, I was ready to float, carried out by a natural high, when Debbie asked me to stick around and hang out. YES, DEBBIE HARRY ASKED ME TO STICK AROUND AND HANG OUT. She complimented me on my mad MC skills, and my heart melted. It was one of those bucket list moments that I’ll remember always, and so will you because it’s memorialized on YouTube forever and ever. As a special gift to their fans, the band is giving away three brand new songs on Blondie.net. I know that can’t compare to my orgasmic experience, but we all can’t be me, can we?
OK, I’m back. Obsessed: “Troublemaker” by Olly Murs featuring Flo-Rida; Taylor Swift’s latest smash called “Red”; “Beneath Your Beautiful” by Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande; Kelly Clarkson’s anthemic “Catch My Breath”; “Try” my favorite song off Pink’s new album; and finally, “Werkin Girls” by Angel Haze. Have a great weekend! I’ll be back with more next week, but until then you can catch me on Twitter, @SergioKletnoy.
