(MILAN) When Miuccia Prada decides what is old is new again, the results are dazzling. Backstage, she referenced "simple clothes," such as those she reinvented in the 90s like A-line skirts, cropped narrow trousers, and double-face cashmere dresses. These ideas abounded, but Prada narrowed her focus to the bustline, giving her models a few extra inches of volume via rows of ruffles, exaggerated seams, and even a bit of intentional puckering. The appearance of Victoria's Secret models such as Alessandra Ambrosio and Doutzen Kroes on the runway underscored this take on femininity---provocative as only Prada dares to tread. A few watercolor prints in olive, chocolate and beige appeared in pieces such as a pea coat with a mink and knit double-collar, while cable-knit sweater pieces were presented as sweaters, skirts, sleeves, and even stocking. Accessories were downright dainty--narrow little patent-leather belts, tied prettily in a bow. The bow also showed up on the toes of white pointed-toe patent leather pumps. But the accessories were the only facet of this exceptional show that was purely nostalgic--overall, these clothes are firmly intended for the Prada customer of today, however she sees herself.
