(NEW YORK) Upscale denim brand Rock & Republic filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last night in New York. The company, which began in denim but now offers men’s and women’s apparel, shoes, accessories, eyewear, cosmetics, and even a pet line, will continue to operate business but will reorganize, looking to “ease pressure on its balance sheet.”

“We are exploring financial relationships that can provide the resources to support our near-term capital needs and long-term growth objectives, and we are serious about satisfying outstanding financial obligations,” said Geoffrey Lurie, who has been named chief restructuring officer by Atlas Strategic Advisors, the company hired to assist Rock & Republic. “At the same time, we will be sharpening our product focus to emphasize the core apparel and footwear businesses that have been the foundation of Rock & Republic's brand reputation, while seeking alternatives for ancillary product lines.” Founder and creative director Michael Ball will continue to hold his post as chief executive officer of the brand.
