Of Very Fine Standards
Caron Callahan created an autumnal oasis amidst the winter storm this afternoon at 10 Greene Street, complete with fall foliage and a calm, soothing ambiance. Standard Finery’s Spring 2010 collection titled "Aki in Love" marks Callahan’s first presentation during Fashion Week, as the line is one year old. The collection consisted of warm toffee and cream hues, airy silks and delicate floral prints. Callahan explained, “This all originally started with some traditional Japanese kimonos. I went to the Met and saw the samurai and armor exhibit. I loved all of the utilitarian, but very special details that were a part of everyday wardrobe way back when. The pieces in this collection are for everyday wear, but each has a special element. I don’t want them to be stored away; I want them to be worn. I am a woman, after all, and I am not trying to conceal the body frame.” The designer went on to explain that more than anything, she has her close circle of friends in mind when she creates. “I’m constantly thinking of friends and what they would want to wear. I want you to be able to run around in the clothes. The Standard Finery woman is smart and loves fashion, but she’s not necessarily out there to make a major statement every single time. She just wants to look beautiful!” Callahan delivered a refreshing collection consisting of looks that were luxurious without a hint of fuss.
