Native Son's Avatars
(NEW YORK) Between Jean Paul Gaultier’s recent couture show and the myriad designers putting on digital presentations this season, Avatar certainly seems to be in the forefront of fashion’s mind. Now, REAL D—the digital stereoscopic projection technology behind the film—is teaming up with photographer Eric Ray Davidson and menswear label Native Son for the brand’s Fall 2010 presentation this Thursday, February 11. The short film (Davidson’s directorial debut), launching at Pier 59 Studios at Chelsea Piers, will come complete with 3-D glasses and a 20-foot screen.
“The idea for a 3-D event came as I was looking into inspiration for the season’s collection, the thought of displaying modern fashion in such a modern medium fascinated me,” said Native Son designer Kyle Fitzgibbons. “With all of the recent development in the 3-D arena, the possibility of creating a product that guests could experience and interact with was within arms reach.” The three-hour presentation will include a looped screening of the short film, live models, music, and cocktails.
