More Sex at Radio City
(NEW YORK) Sex and the City 2 will hit theaters in mere months—try to contain yourselves—but what of the breathlessly-anticipated premiere?
First, let's look back to May 27, 2008, when Sixth Avenue turned into its own show dubbed (by the Daily) Vexed and the City. Upwards of 2,000 people received tickets to the Radio City Music Hall premiere of Sex and the City through promotional giveaways authorized by New Line Cinema, but when the 6,000-seat venue was overbooked, fans were turned away after hours of waiting in line. The fine print on each ticket explained that seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those who did not win their tickets through a contest, including Anna Wintour, André Leon Talley, Fergie, Isaac Mizrahi, Ashley Olsen, and Mary J. Blige, sailed into the theater (and then later the after party at MoMA). Quel suprise.
One would assume that New Line Cinema and Warner Brothers would opt for a quieter premiere for the sequel. However, The Daily hears that Sex and the City 2 is set to premiere on Monday, May 24 and will be toasted on the same mammoth scale as the last extravagaza. Will it be the Ziegfeld this time? Not likely. The Ziegfeld is wide-open on the 24th, but Radio City Music Hall, the original venue, is entirely booked. A booking agent at Radio City commented, “I cannot confirm the Sex and the City 2 premiere, but the 24th is completely booked.” New Line Cinema is in the process of finalizing details, and they have no announcement at this time. Will the premiere allow in outside guests through promo giveaways, or will it be by invitation only? At any rate, expect too many Manolos to count.
