Ted Baker London finally opened its doors on Fifth Ave. last week and what better way to fete the occasion than with a chic afternoon soiree? We caught up with CEO and founder Ray Kelvin (who we learned doesn't ever get his face fully photographed!) for a little tete-a-tete mid tea.
Why Fifth Ave.?
Fifth Avenue is the location for the world! It's been on our wish list for a long time, and now we're here. It’s taken six months with all the permits and licenses. It’s pretty tricky, isn’t it?
Do you have plans to expand anywhere else in the city?
We're in 35 countries around the world. We’ve got 15 stores in the states, and this is our third in New York.
What’s your favorite thing about this store?
The whole store is based on upstairs and downstairs. Right now we're in the scullery, where all the servants' quarters would be. I like it down here a lot.
What's your favorite kind of tea?
English Breakfast, I’m afraid.
Is that why you threw a tea party?
We love tea! There are always tea parties in the afternoon. Ted for tea! We’re going to have a tea dance later. Will you dance with me?
Why don't more Americans obsess over tea?
Remember the tea party in Boston...?
