Karl's Spring Symphony
(PARIS) “Is a recession still really going on?” wondered Lily Allen as she entered the Grand Palais Tuesday morning for the Chanel spectacular. “This is truly like going to the ballet, except you can get your climax here in fifteen minutes,” added the singer. She was, of course, on point with her observations. For the first time ever, the entire Grand Palais real estate was used for the show, complete with three freshly-constructed fountains, thousands of pounds of black and while sand, and a full-fledged orchestra. “After Milan, I went home to relax a little bit,” smiled Claudia Schiffer. “But all this joy can instantly bring you back into Karl’s fantasy world.”
Others experiencing the Lagerfeld sonata, which starred 85 models? Just about everyone in fashion, like Rachel Bilson, Peter Marino, Audrey Marnay, Elisa Sednaoui, Poppy Delevigne, Patrick Demarchelier, Leigh Lezark and many others. “I feel like I’m in some sort of amazing, post-apocalyptic garden of Karl’s,” exclaimed Bryan Boy as he joyfully snapped away. Vanessa Paradis had others things to worry about, like the attention she was earning thanks to her low-cut top. “If some one tries to untie these bowties, I’ll just have to slap them!” she smiled.
Keira Knightley was the most famous member of the front row today, and she was stunned by the experience. “I was on a single breath the whole time,” she said right after the show. “I mean, just meeting Karl or talking to him is like talking to a God. He’s everything to fashion.” Initially, Knightley politely refused the post-show champagne but then quickly changed her mind. “After that show, I can’t resist it at 11 in the morning,” laughed the Oscar nominee.
Other post-show snacks included kiwi juice, fresh raspberries and lobster, and face time with the Kaiser. But Courtney Love had an even bigger idol to meet. “I have to run up to Lady Amanda Harlech,” quipped the rocker. “She’s like an ultimate muse to me!” And what did Love think of the dramatic, symphonic finale? “I have a problem with Bittersweet Symphony. Every time it plays I start moving and shaking with emotion,” she admitted. “I’ve spent the last five years trying to write my own Bittersweet Symphony and miserably failing!”
