This is it, people: Chic's first post about the holiday shopping season of 2010. As you know, the major jewelry purchases are orchestrated well in advance of Black Friday, so as you start perusing the cases at Cartier, Graff, Aaron Faber, and Van Cleef, we enlisted CIRCA's chairman and CEO Chris Del Gatto to tell us what we need to know before throwing down. Without further ado:

1. "Always comparison shop with at least two reputable jewelers."
2. "If you are buying a diamond, always get a GIA certificate."
3. "Preferably buy signed jewelry – over time, a good name will never lose its cache."
4. "If you are partial to estate jewelry, you will always get more for your money buying estate."
5. "Most importantly, buy what you love – jewelry should never be considered an investment."
