Gaiters, Flared Legwarmers, Oh My!

Chez French design house Vionnet, they're called gaiters. But cool-kid on the block Alexander Wang throws us back to the '80s by calling them flared legwarmers. Who cares what they're called---what are they? Both versions feature black wool styles that look like they could just be an extension of shorts. (Wait, isn't that called pants?) The Wang pair is a louche-slouchy look that oozes the comfortable sex-appeal that has made him such a hit with leggy models. Vionnet sticks more to its classic roots, featuring a slim tapered style that reaches thigh high and finishes in a practical stirrup bottom that can be tucked over heels. Functional? For those who are slaves to their stilettos, these provide a chic alternative to frozen feet and legs. But will this random expenditure actually sell in colder months?
