The editrix of the hour has finally arrived in Paris. Chic grabbed T's Deborah Needleman at Chanel to get her to cough up something—anything—about her new gig. Did she bite? #teamdeborah
I'm not going to say anything interesting today!
What was it that finally made you change your mind?
Oh, I don't want to talk about it. I kind of think that talking about it puts everybody in a weird position, and the best thing to do is go forward and start making a new magazine.
How have you felt with all this attention on you lately?
I don't like it! I understand that it's the job of journalists to try to figure out what's going on, but the media attention effects the actual story and other people's lives. I don't care so much about me personally, but for other people it creates instability at both of the magazines, which is kind of unfortunate. But that's just the way it works.
Any thoughts on who would be a good replacement for you at WSJ.?
I don't really know. It's a great job and a great place to work. I'm the last person to play that game, though I do think it's a really fun game to play now that I'm on the other side of it.
Any idea who your first cover will be?
Can you give us a hint?
What reaction have you felt from your peers?
This is the first morning that I've been around other people, but people have been incredibly supportive and nice. I'm sure that could change in one second, but I've always felt great support from the editors of the other magazines.
What cafeteria do think will be better?
The Wall Street Journal doesn't have a cafeteria, and I was never a huge fan of the Condé Nast cafeteria, so I'm looking forward to the Times cafeteria.
Eric Wilson isn't sure if you like to be called Debbie or Deborah. Please clarify!
Debbie is only for Cherry Hill, NJ and that's my Twitter name, but it's a joke. It bums me out terribly when anyone call's me Debbie other than people from my childhood. Debbie is only ironic.
When did you get to Paris?
I got here yesterday, and I'm going to a few shows, and I'm starting to work on my new job!
Do you have a favorite Chanel moment?
They're always good! Florence Welch in the clam shell was not bad. It's a huge and fantastic installation. I'm not sure what this is about today. Has Karl Lagerfeld gone green with these wind turbines? I'm not sure what the message is yet.
